@sipc are my securities liquidated in a bail in or if a bank goes under? Am I a general creditor if the bank in such an event?

@SeanBre90802616 As long as your broker is a SIPC member, your securities and cash are automatically protected up to the $500,000 statutory limit. See sipc.org/for-investors/.

@rainmanissmart @SECGov @federalreserve @USTreasury The $500,000 limit is set by statute and can only be changed by an act of Congress. We do not know if or when Congress might consider changing this limit.

@SECGov @sipc @federalreserve @USTreasury Why is SIPC insurance a lowly $500K. When will you increase this limit. Many people have IRAs which are higher. You folks mostly removed pensions but didn't increase SIPC insurance limit since 1980 i think.
