Ultimately, I have no loyalty to any personalities or parties in British politics, and I don’t think you should either. What matters, fundamentally, is the ability of the right to organise itself effectively and pragmatically: to play to its own strengths, minimise its weaknesses and target its enemies at the points of maximum vulnerability. That’s it. That’s how you win. I will support anyone who can do that—a party, multiple parties, it doesn’t matter. The evidence of the Makerfield by-election, for all concerned, is worrying, to say the least. It’s clear the Labour Party still maintains a formidable campaigning apparatus, and can count on generational support and the willingness of other left-wing voters to vote tactically to keep the right wing out. Even more worrying is the evidence from elsewhere in the North, where the Tories won a by-election in a community they effectively destroyed. Regardless of whether or not Burnham now makes a leadership challenge and is successful—I’m not entirely sure he will—the British right is still a long way from being the animal it needs to be to win. The stakes could not be higher. We are talking about nothing less than the future survival of Britain and the British people.

Andy Burnham won an overwhelming victory. It is only fair to recognise that and congratulate him and his team. An impressive campaign, particularly their effort on the ground yesterday in Makerfield which was vast. Fair enough.

Fuck it, we ball. If they keep getting Anglo-Celt poasters to write pdfs about Islam and the west. If they do something for UK growth. If they build the forest city - just build something, anything. If they do all this in good faith, I’m with them. Or the hat comes off.
