After a bad result at the Lorwyn Pro Tour with UB Faeries, without Drowner and Sirens (5-5), I went back to testing the old, more performing version of UB, earning a trophy 🏆with this list. Now i'm testing it for the next RC in march @fireshoes @MTGO

Won standard challenge with dimir mid @fireshoes Dimir has insane matchups into the elemental decks that try to beat cub.(and dimir doomsday) I think glamer gifter is bad and you could replace it with riddler or requiting hex.

@OptimusTomTV This seems quite informative to tell us which decks our SB cards matter more against, though there is the noise of them also sideboarding against you. Perhaps it's most relevant for "presideboarding" considerations and how to better build our maindeck

I ask because it was fairly easy to snag from my current Stats Breakdowns. For example, Bant Airbending at RC Portland played 658 Matches & had a Confirmed Game 1 Win in 166 of them (25.2% of matches) I could even do this H2H for Archetypes if people are interested!

Toying around with some new ideas for Stats to look at from larger Events. We don't get the Play/Draw statistics from Events outside Top 8 - but I was wondering if there were any other game-level things to look at. So I started thinking about Maindeck vs Sideboard games (cont)

@housesarebig @funk_a_lunk Too much variance in Magic for anyone in their right mind to have as much faith in their deck as it would take to think it's realistic to 12-0 an RC. There is more to life than one tournament of Magic, even if you sold a guide.

@funk_a_lunk I think dropping while still live at 0-3 after selling a guide shows you dont believe what you were selling. I understand that not everyone will agree with me on that and its fine

Your game’s designer published a metafy guide and went 0-3 0-6 drop as a “published author and pro magic player” at the RC he made the guide for, run fast and run far

@SamuelHBlack My take is that if the ceiling of a deck is bannable, the deck should be banned. It is not healthy for anyone to have access to a deck that can represent a power level outlier compared to what the rest of a format is capable of.

I’m not very convinced by the tournament logistics arguments around this deck, and its aggregate win rate I believe is clearly not a problem, so the question is basically whether it’s too good when played by the best players. That definitionally doesn’t have far reaching effects-

Regarding possible bans from Amulet in Modern: I’m not 100% convinced banning Primeval Titan kills the deck. Amulet’s the card that would “kill” the deck (you can build a deck that does the same things, but I don’t think it would be a serious competitor)—

@Toddfatters0n @rcondon_ Except Dafore has done well in PT drafts, and also holds the best recorded results cubing out of everybody on arena (over LSV, Cheon, Lola, Ham, etc) by a significant margin. Weaker competition just gives cause for a higher bar to deem results significant

@rcondon_ It certainly creates a skew for some people who would not otherwise be able to carry their weight, let’s say on MTGO or a pro tour draft, which is the caliber I think we want this discussion to exist under.

Dafore is more right than his critics & the Arena grinders, limited content creators and zoomers are actually extremely good at the game in ways the pros often underestimate 👍🏼 Mostly what’s happening is that arena and pts/mtgo are *different* games

@JoINrbs @PandaBaris I do disagree with this fwiw. Boros cards primarily win more because they end up in better decks more often than lotus lotus. Which is a testament to how good it (and timewalk) are, because they are keeping up quite well

@PandaBaris the main reason the dataset only has black lotus as the 5th highest winrate card in the cube is that it almost always costs a first pick. the other cards that are able to do comparably well get drafted 3rd/4th pick.

a streamer becoming the #1 mtg arena vintage cube drafter and using that authority to argue that black lotus is an overrated magic the gathering card on x is very very funny. like if a decent mall santa started explaining to 8 year olds that chocolate was a bad christmas gift.

@Dafore3 @AliEldrazi Serra paragon, minsc, and t2 elspeth all have their spots in boros. I could imagine lurrus working too

@AliEldrazi Which is a line that i dont wanna risk anymore. Out of all 4's only comet is a good play imo. Gideon and chandra are both terrible cards without lotus. Wave goyf are the premium 4's that dont work well.

@PiemontiAndrea Turn 1 seems like the more important decision here, especially postboard. We're happier with them bolting pride on 1, guide on 1 incentivizes us to overplay into wrath, pride works well with topdecked bomba/bolt for their phelia.
