Opening a bank account in Japan as a foreigner is way more complicated than you’d think. You’ll need: • Residence card (在留カード) • Proof of address (住民票) from city hall • Personal seal (印鑑/hanko) — yes, an actual stamp with your name • My Number card (depending on the bank) • Sometimes proof of employment or student status Japan Post Bank and Prestia SMBC are usually foreigner friendly if you’re struggling.
