A deal with Saudi Arabia + OPEC: Oil would be sold in USD. The world would need dollars to buy energy. That’s the petrodollar. This system survived shocks like the 1973 oil crisis. Oil prices exploded. Economies crashed. But the dollar? Got stronger. Every attempt to break this system faced resistance. Saddam Hussein pushed euro-based oil. Muammar Gaddafi proposed a gold-backed dinar. Both challenged USD dominance. We all know what happened to them afterwards. Now fast forward ⏩ The Strait of Hormuz is under pressure. Not fully closed, but controlled. And that’s the key. Iran isn’t just disrupting oil. It’s shaping who gets access. Reportedly charging in Chinese yuan for a safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. That’s the shift. If oil starts trading outside USD: • Global demand for dollars drops • US leverage weakens • Sanctions lose power • Borrowing costs rise over time Winners? China 🇨🇳 is pushing the Yuan into energy Russia 🇷🇺 is already bypassing USD Japan 🇯🇵 may also be buying Russian oil with the yuan. Pressure builds on: United States Not immediate collapse. But slow erosion of control. And then there’s India 🇮🇳 Not choosing sides. Buying discounted oil. Keeping US ties. Expanding alternatives. Positioning quietly. This isn’t just a war. For the first time in decades, the petrodollar is being challenged at the source.
