I've crossed 17 years at VentureBeat/GamesBeat now. Thank you all for supporting and reading our work. It's been great to be part of the games and tech community for all this time. I still enjoy it every day, as it has connected me with so many of you and those connections have lasted for decades.

Been off the grid fighting to save my house and neighborhood for days. It burned a house two doors down, two above us on a hill and two on the other side of us (went all around). We are staying vigilant because we are not out of the woods with embers, falling ash, and putting out spot fires around us and at our neighbors. Got a @Starlink up and a solar powered rechargeable battery which has been a game changer to coordinate and get info. My brother lost his house, our kids lost their school and 90% of the families at their school lost their houses. Grateful to all the first responders and everyone working to help support each other and save lives and neighborhoods. Reminder to everyone - be prepared for emergencies. Our water, food supplies, hoses and landscape fire hygiene has been critical for us. Sending love to everyone affected. #PalisadeFires #Palisades

@elonmusk @tracewoodgrains I have seen some people express skepticism about your high level Quake play back in the day, but after watching you run Diablo now, I’m sure you were a force to be reckoned with!

From what I know is he played mostly on the west servers which wouldn’t have been ideal for me. Ping times were a real issue back then. I played mostly central and east coast servers online and LAN events around the mid-west. I remember most peoples nicknames from back in the early days, but I believe @thresh would have had the most contact and knowledge of the west coast servers and the competition there.

Joe and Elon are spot on about gaming benefits. I’ve noticed this since I was in high school. 🚀 Listen to this podcast. Would love to talk about it more and come on the #JoeRoganPodcast show. Always amazing to see success stories from people who played Quake in the early days. Was really special time.

The great and powerful @elonmusk. If it wasn't for him we'd be fucked. He makes what I think is the most compelling case for Trump you'll hear, and I agree with him every step of the way. For the record, yes, that's an endorsement of Trump. Enjoy the podcast

Todd Hollenshead (former CEO of id Software) and I believe that Space Marine 2 is the fastest selling game we’ve ever worked on, including all the Quake, DOOM, Wolfenstein, and RAGE games over the years. #SpaceMarine2

4 years ago, I led a group of 100+ former employees and founders of @fanduel in a case of breach of fiduciary duty against FanDuel’s former board members (including investors KKR and Shamrock). Three months ago, the NY Court of Appeals found in our favor. The Court concluded that board members had indeed owed a fiduciary duty to shareholders. On Friday, we lodged an expanded complaint that, for the first time, publicly details the defendants’ various breaches of these duties, as well as outlines the defendants’ fraud, conspiracy and bribery under Scots law. A very brief summary: In 2018, FanDuel merged with the US arm of Flutter Entertainment to create a new company called FanDuel Group. In exchange, FanDuel shareholders received 40% of the equity in the new company. However, the board (which was controlled by private equity investors KKR and Shamrock) used a phony valuation of $559M to wipe out common shareholders (largely the founders and employees). Less than 2 years later, those same investors sold that 40% stake in FanDuel Group for $4.2B. Standing up against the likes of KKR is not easy, but I’m determined that the team of 100+ amazing people who spent years building FanDuel from the ground up will get back what was stolen from them in 2018. Link to the full complaint in the reply below.

My 10-year-old son is already an entrepreneur. He started a valet trash business in our neighborhood. His business model: For $100 per year, he takes care of customers’ trash twice a week. One Sunday, he set out with flyers and knocked on 40 doors. When he came back, we debriefed. Son: “Man, I knocked on 40 doors and only got one customer. My goal was to get three.” Me: “Alright, when are you going to follow up?” Follow up? I could see he looked confused. Son: “Most people said they weren’t sure or ready to sign up yet.” Me: “Go see everybody. Keep going back until they tell you ‘no’.” That’s what he did. And he came back with five more customers. He got 5x the customers by being consistent and relentless with the follow-up. Now he has 13 customers and growing, many of them from referrals. Most people only ask once. They give up too early. Don’t forget how powerful just following up is.

after many months of cross-country flights, zoom calls, and late night deck revisions... whew... I'm glad to finally be able to share what I've been up to for the past bit: yes, that's right-- A16Z GAMES FUND TWO 😎 I'm super proud of the team for putting this all together. Huge team effort. This is an all-new, next generation fund that is dedicated to the intersection of TECH x GAMES. It's equally sized to our debut fund that we raised in 2022, and we are excited to invest this new fund across many stages and sectors, from inception to Series A/B. And from AI/infra, web3 games, VR/AR, 3D tooling, gamified apps, game studios, and much more. The fund targets a $300B+ industry that has spawned incredible companies over the past decade, and it's great to be able to build!

Once upon a time, I won a Quake tournament, and with that, the main prize: a graphics card. It was thrilling, it made my day, I was proud and had bragging rights to real-life and online friends! We went on to build the sport and its opportunities for other players!

I have received a lot of questions concerning the status of some of our previously announced projects now that Saber has separated from Embracer. I'm happy to confirm we're still working on a number of titles, including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, and Jurassic Park: Survival. We're so excited about these titles and can't wait to share more with everyone soon.
