life update: I decided to forgo college this fall to join @a16z full time. I’m beyond excited to be part of the New Media team. Our goal is simple: help the firm and its portcos tell their stories, and push the frontier of what’s creatively possible. This path hasn’t been straightforward. Balancing school and work was hard and extremely lonely. But along the way I’ve also found some of my closest friends, worked with people I grew up admiring, and built memories I’ll carry forever. Dropping out is a scary sentence to write. At the same time, I feel an undeniable pull toward this work. It excites and challenges me every day. Here's to a new chapter.

Add in the fact that this was a brand-new IP, navigating a pandemic-era release, and it makes sense why it landed on Netflix instead of taking the traditional theatrical path. But now? I believe this is just the beginning. The potential for Kpop Demon Hunters as a franchise is massive, and if they lean into it, this could become not just a hit film, but a lasting cultural franchise.

Having a theatrical release where I spent nearly $75 after my kids had already seen it for free on Netflix (multiple times)... this feels like a LTV hack on my family. Let's not even talk about all the Halloween discussions that have been popping up in our household as well.

@russdiemon That's a good point, especially in today's world, where funding and resources can come from anywhere (not just a major label). Music is a creative (and subjective) world.

It’s important to me to show how big budget independence can look. Obviously big budgets aren’t accessible to all independent artists but I just wanna show that independent doesn’t mean “less than.” Just wanna inspire and push the perception of what’s possible. Gonna be a great summer 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Parents just don’t understand! The Minecraft movie trailers were met with skeptical reviews back in late 2024. Keep in mind that many of the skeptical reviewers and critics were not Gen Z, and they could not understand how this would be a quality movie worth watching.
