He also participated in science outreach through Project SMART, the National Society of Black Physicists, and public educational events at Howard University and the National Air and Space Museum.

We also want to spotlight the work of Dr. George Carruthers for #BlackHistoryMonth! Dr. Carruthers’ love for space science developed at a young age, fueled by his interest in space fiction books.

everal years later, he again returned to the oil and gas industry and worked for Shell and Halliburton. Dr. Leftwich also helped found the National Association of Black Geologists and Geophysicists, now known as the National Association of Black Geoscientists.

In addition to her oceanographic research, Dr. Wright is a supporter of science communication and a member of the Black in Marine Science organization and the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee of AGU.
