If FIFA wants fans to trust VAR, decisions have to be consistent. Disallowing one goal for a soft foul while ignoring what looked like a clear penalty on Salah is exactly why people are furious.
Egypt can accept losing to a better team, but it's much harder to accept losing when the biggest decisions seem to go against you. Football deserves better than this.

Whether the reported 2.3 million figure is accurate or not, one thing is undeniable: Khamenei's influence extended far beyond Iran's borders.
Crowds don't end decades of geopolitical tensions, but they do remind us that this conflict isn't just about missiles and military strategy, it's also about ideology, loyalty, and millions of people who see the region very differently.
How the world interprets this turnout could shape the next chapter as much as any battlefield.

🇮🇶 2.3 million have reportedly turned out for Khamenei's funeral in Najaf, Iraq.
The figure comes from the Popular Mobilisation Forces, an Iraqi paramilitary group, and is not confirmed.
The procession winds about 6km through Najaf, the third holiest site in Shia Islam. From there the coffin heads to Karbala, then back to Iran tonight, with burial set for Mashhad.
Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, in his 90s, is sitting it out, staying home in the 45°C heat rather than making any political point.

If this is accurate, then we're no longer talking about isolated retaliation, we're watching a dangerous cycle of escalation where every strike justifies an even bigger one.
Military targets can be rebuilt, shipping lanes can be disrupted again, and the region pays the price every single time.
The real question is: what does "victory" actually look like here, or is this becoming a conflict with no clear endgame?

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 The U.S. is hitting Iran with strikes four to five times BIGGER than anything since the ceasefire, in the middle of the funeral commemorations.
Trump approved the plan from Ankara, per Axios, huddled with Hegseth, Rubio, Bessent and Gen. Caine on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
CENTCOM says the wave answers Iran striking THREE ships in 36 hours, including a Qatari LNG carrier hit amidships by a drone.
Malcolm Nance's chilling aside: had that tanker been loaded, you'd be looking at an all-hands-lost fireball.
Empty was the message.
The targets, per a US official: air defenses, coastal radar, anti-ship missile sites, drone launchers, ports.
Explosions rolling across Sirik, Qeshm, Bandar Abbas.
Moments earlier, Treasury revoked the oil waivers, and Tehran fired back that the revocation itself breaches the MOU.
Each side now holds a signed document accusing the other of tearing it up.
Malcolm has watched this loop since he was 26, and his verdict hasn't budged: the geography favors Iran, the tunnels survive, every round resets the clock.
After a package this size, he expects Tehran to skip symbolic tarmac strikes and escalate where it hurts, possibly sinking the next vessel that runs the Omani corridor.
His question hangs over the night: what exactly does hitting rebuilt rubble buy?

@BRICSinfo The NATO summit just became a sideshow. Is this calculated deterrence, or are we watching another major escalation unfold? 🌍

Egyptian manager Hossam Hassan has come out firing after his sides elimination from the 2026 World Cup to Argentina 🤬🇪🇬
😤 "We haven’t seen respect or fair play. A penalty was ruled out and a second (incident) that should have been checked for a penalty for us was not even checked by the VAR. A second goal was remarkably, for whatever reason, disallowed.
👀 “There seems to have been pressure on the Argentinian side on the referee that has brought about this outcome.
😠 “Life is unfair. The world is unfair. OK, but why isn’t there any fairness in sports? I’m not convinced by this outcome and by the way things unfolded in this match.
😬 “The referee is unfair, God is sufficient for me and the best disposer of affairs. He’s wasting the effort of an entire nation. The cup is directed towards Argentina.”
