@hanashanalana @AgentSheryl Yup that’s true, that’s also part of the problem. The companies and the industries as well

@wednesdaymultii @AgentSheryl Isn't this hypocritical? They complain that the idols are uniformed about the source material, while they themselves are uninformed about the people they criticise. At best, I would blame the companies for leaving this as trivia idols reveal in random interviews

@wednesdaymultii Our humanity and community is important to US, and should be treated as such, I'm just not ever going to act like it's important to anyone else, so I move as such.

@NineOuh90 Okay, I see what you mean. In that case the money is the most important? I can see how that can uplift Black American communities, but if it’s only about profit and not humanity too (they can work together), can’t that be problematic in the long term?

@wednesdaymultii I see no value in appeals to morality, or appealing to other people to recognize our humanity. I'm far too grown for all that. So the only way forward is ownership, and strict cultural standards.

@NineOuh90 Mm I see, that’s very true. Despite this being the ideal way to go, do you see that people are at least trying to attack it from several angles (telling people about the Black roots of a lot of global music, specifically Kpop in this instance)?

@wednesdaymultii It mostly comes down to the fact that they have govt entities that work hard to protect said cultural artifacts. Black Americans can't go that route though becuase they are a subaltern element within empire.

There is no credit to be given, kpop is part of Korean culture, i don’t see u niigers getting mad at europeans, latin americans for copying rap music they have their own versions of hiphop over there, Why are u niigs only mad at korea? 😂 cause kpop are outdoing black artists?😂
glow out now!! ☘︎@elee_bxbyy

this kpop black culture debate keeps happening bc they refuse to rightfully credit black americans for their contributions to music. instead they get racist and dismiss it even further

People want kpop to acknowledge black influence or whatever so much probably because they have a massive hate boner for east asians. For whatever reason. Cause you never see this for the American pop industry and such

Black people would have to, as they say, be "On Code" And any deviation from said code should mean cultural excommunication. It would also require black people get much less friendly with others when it comes to profit sharing and investment in entertainment.

@NineOuh90 curiosity and wanting to learn)? I think telling people about the mistreatment happening once it is sold is still important as well (since once it is sold it continues to be commodified)

@NineOuh90 I partially agree with that. Black Americans own their culture socially, but not economically like what you are saying. That’s a good point. How can Black Americans go to the root of the cause and effectively gain economic rights back to their own culture (I’m asking this out of

@wednesdaymultii Nobody cares is what I'm trying to say. And no amount of moral grandstanding will change that. There is no "Cultural Appropriation Bureau" for settling claims of cultural ownership and credit giving, no one cares enough. This is frivolous fluff culture to them, get over it.

@jeoongguri @Lotuswhale613 Yes, that’s understandable. A lot of online conversations like this are a lot of people coming at each other with their own worldviews and perspectives but not allowing space for learning and understanding. I always try to understand both perspectives and meet people there

So Koreans should only do traditional Korean music? Should non-black people in the west stop making rap, house, rock, r&b, and other music because its from black people? We should learn only opera and classical music? Yodeling?

@NineOuh90 Okay, two things can be true at once. I think it’s nice that people find Black culture cool, but they can do that while also acknowledging their influence. Maybe some people may not say things in the most graceful way because they are tired of this kind of mistreatment

@wednesdaymultii No, they're haranguing Asians for doing stuff they think is cool divorced from any cultural context, and refusing to show grace to fellow victims of imperialism. I don't like kpop either, but I'm not going to act like it's a moral failing of some kind. It is what it is.🤷🏿‍♂️

@NineOuh90 Exactly, at least we’re on the same team about that. American imperialism and white supremacy are the problem. So why don’t we fight to change that? That’s what Black Americans are trying to do by claiming what’s theirs

@wednesdaymultii @Lotuswhale613 But you see, a lot of people in korea do not have kind of background knowledge. So its kinda hard to relate when this kind of conversation is brought up.(We do know that black-americans are oppressed, but the acknowledgement part? Not so much.)
