On Teddy Sheringham’s birthday, a reminder of his first day at Forest with new boss Brian Clough: 💬”He came walking down the corridor and said: ‘Ah you must be Edward Sheringham’. I told him I was, but I preferred to be called Teddy. He said: ‘OK, welcome to the club, Edward’.”

@VoWalesWren @RDPHistory Well said. I personally know at least 3 of the defenders that morning. They did their duty above & beyond in the face of overwhelming odds. PMPT.

44 years ago today, during the Falklands War, my husband stood on the front line defending our British flag in the South Atlantic. This is him on the left, captured in this moment after the battle, hands on his head, taken as a prisoner of war. He fought with courage alongside his comrades in the bitter cold and harsh conditions, doing what so many young British servicemen did, answering the call to protect British sovereignty. Until ordered to lay down arms by the Governor Rex Hunt! Today we remember the bravery of all who served in the Falklands. The ones who came home, the ones who didn’t, and the families who waited and worried. 🫡🇬🇧 To my husband - I’m so proud of the man you were then, and the man you are now. Thank you for your service. 🫡❤️🇬🇧 It makes me furious to watch spineless traitors like Keir Starmer eagerly handing over our sovereign lands at every opportunity and betraying everything people like my husband and his comrades fought, bled and suffered for 🤬🇬🇧 #FalklandsWar #NP8901 #LestWeForget ❤️#BritishArmedForces

@dacshunder @AliasLaAntipoda @RDPHistory No, Governor Hunt ordered them to stand down, there was no point in a slaughter. The RM pinched their best weapons leaving them armed with a mixture of SMLE and Bren Guns. I think they were all rather brave to even turn out, they must have known they stood little chance.

April 1st 1982: The Royal Marines of NP8901 raid the FIDF armoury and their own stores, grabbing rifles, ammo, pistols, fragmentation & phosphorous grenades, 66mm LAW rocket launchers, GPMGs and 84mm Carl Gustav anti-tank rifles, loading up with everything they can carry... 1/2

I normally go into World Cups/Euros believing England can win the tournament, but not this time. Most of these players are overhyped. I genuinely don’t see a “World Class” player in the squad, possibly Kane. 💩 Shit manager 💩 Shit squad 💩 Shit mentality

Today, as Bosnia and Herzegovina faced Israel in a U21 Euro qualifier —played on ‘neutral’ ground in Hungary— most of the Bosnian players refused the pre-match handshake and walked straight to their half as an act of protest.

🚨💣 In the heated buildup to the World Cup playoff decider against Italy, Bosnia captain Edin Džeko was asked if the home crowd should boo the Italian anthem tomorrow. 🥹❤️ He immediately shut it down and delivered the complete opposite message: “Everyone should stand up and applaud the Italian anthem because surely many forget, but Italy was the first country to come play here, against us, after the war, in 1996. For this we will always be grateful and we must stand and applaud. After that, in the 90 minutes, on the pitch, it will be a war, but always friends with the Italians. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch.” Honor to those who respected the homeland. 🇧🇦🇮🇹

A WWII pigeon died in a chimney with a top secret message still on its leg. In 1982, David Martin and his wife Anne were renovating the fireplace in their 17th century house in Bletchingley, Surrey. As they cleared the chimney, bird bones came down with the debris including a breastbone, skull, and a leg with an aluminium ring. Then the second leg came down and it had a red plastic capsule attached to it. Historians believe the bird was almost certainly dispatched from Nazi-occupied France on June 6, 1944, during the D-Day Invasions. The British spy pigeon either got lost, disorientated in bad weather, or was simply exhausted after flying for hundreds of miles. Experts speculate the bird attempted to rest on an open chimney but was overcome by fumes from a fire below and died. The message, hand-written on a small sheet of paper headed "Pigeon Service," was found in a small red canister still attached to the pigeon's leg bone. Experts from GCHQ said the message, which has 27 five-letter code groups, is impossible to crack without its codebook. Experts say the red capsule is the type used by the Special Operations Executive, whose agents undertook sabotage missions such as blowing up trains, bridges, and factories in German-occupied territory. World War II experts suspect the message was on its way to Bletchley Park, 80 miles away, which had a classified pigeon loft. The message contained 27 codes, each a combination of five numbers and letters, destined for "X02," the classified designation for Britain's Bomber Command. GCHQ's experts concluded the pigeon-borne message cannot be decoded without access to the original cryptographic material. It is a tribute to the skills of the wartime code-makers that, despite working under severe pressure, they devised a code that was undecipherable both then and now.

One of the funniest & most politically incorrect adverts of all time. Set in Mbongoland it's an ad for SIlk Cut cigarettes. The idea is with a 2 week siege you can change brand from a high tar cigarette to the milder Silk Cut. A satire on Zulu it was only shown in the cinema. March 29th 1982: RRS John Biscoe arrives in Port Stanley bearing 41 Royal Marines of the 81/82 Naval Party 8901 detachment, finally arrived from Montevideo. Now the garrison of the Falklands has effectively doubled, although it isn't much of an army to stop what's coming... 1/2
