🚨 Hot take: Burzum doesn’t hold up musically. I get the historical impact on the 2nd wave, and I can respect that influence on the scene. 😒 But purely from a musical standpoint? It’s never connected with me. 👆🏻 A lot of it leans heavily on atmosphere and aesthetic, but I don’t hear the same level of composition, development, or musicianship I look for in something I’d revisit. And when you factor in Varg Vikernes and everything surrounding that history, it becomes even harder to separate the music from the ideology and image. At the end of the day, I’m here for the craft, strong writing, intention, and musical depth. Curious where others land on this, impact vs actual musical substance?

@weepingrein nah whole genre still sucks, all the 2000s melodic metalcore bands are just slaughter of the soul but worse, all the 90s post-hardcore stuff sucks and all the modern over produced stuff sucks

disliking any and all metalcore is a sign of not knowing what you're talking about the early metalcore scene is absolutely phenomenal, and the early 2000s scene was literally melodic death metal with breakdowns. if you like melo death, you're bound to like melodic metalcore.
