@carpathicus That was quick……have you watched it? Do you have a problem with other people watching it & making up their own minds?

@daverburgess Of course you are free to make up your mind, just know that 'documentary' it is not necessarily unbiased. The article in the link I posted was written by a Russian civil rights activist, by the way.

@carpathicus It looks very interesting & lots of things I already knew about events is included, especially about the people who circle the current POTUS. In fact this entire video could’ve been made about what’s happening now, & yet it was made in 2016, how strange do you find that?

@daverburgess I don't find it strange at all because nothing that happens today was unforeseen or unexpected. In fact there were people already predicting the current events in 2014. Also the political 'splits' in Ukraine, were not unique, but very similar in other former Soviet countries.

@carpathicus That’s not quite true, Ukraine has always had a right-wing nationalistic political presence. The deeper you dig, the murkier it becomes. The video I’ve just watched could’ve been written for current events, it was almost a prediction you could say.

@daverburgess I would argue that nowadays there is far less nationalism and right wing extremism in the Ukraine than it is in the USA. Also, do you think it is a coincidence that most former iron country countries would never dream of going back to Russia?

@carpathicus Factual history is not propaganda, you can’t just rewrite the political activities over the last 10 years of nationalist Ukrainian groups as though it never happened. Maybe you should watch that video, see the people who were involved from the US & then get back to me.

@daverburgess I come from a former Iron Curtain country with over 600 km of border with the Ukraine. I grew up partly under communism, and I still remember a certain fear of Soviet tanks. I'm also aware there is little love left for Russia especially when they try to impose their will.

@carpathicus I traveled through Germany in the 80s & was always shocked to see the difference between the west & the east, of course I had a get out of jail free ticket, but I do understand you comment about communism, but this conflict is about something much deeper.

@daverburgess I disagree, profoundly, since it is very similar to the situation in Moldova, or Georgia, and Putin would use the exact same arguments there too, if necessary.
