
Making a game is already time consuming enough. Adding months, or maybe even years to develop an engine is just not feasible.
It's a sacrifice we have to make, just as with using premade assets, cutting down scope, etc.

They actually godoubled down? That's not godood. Write your own engine. It'll make the game feel more unique, and you will have all the control. It's not that difficult. If you can make a game, you can make an engine.
