Most people arguning against this are saying "It's the transition between organized crime and supervillains" well yes but it's still pretty superficial, stories like Prey, The man who laughs, Eye of the beholder, and most villain "year one" stories convey this idea better

@BatmanRouges I really don’t understand what’s “superficial” about it. It’s a murder mystery juggling a lot of plates that could have crashed really easily. This take just feels like you read an acclaimed Batman story, didn’t like it and decided “well I guess I’ll just be above it”

@BatmanRouges I always thought the scoop on Long Halloween was that it was a uniquely beautiful comic with a so-so story that kind of is just there for Sale to draw as many Batman villains as he can. I’m kind of surprised so many people thought it was all that great of a story lol

@BatmanRouges I'll never understand why people always recommend TLH as a first Batman comic. If you want a more accurate sampling of Batman I would recommend something like the Englehart run.

@BatmanRouges I don't see how you get nothing out of the world, it has great characterization with Harvey Dent that Nolan clearly ripped off for the Dark Knight and the world and villains are extremely well defined and fleshed out as is Batman.

@BatmanRouges Loeb does this slightly annoying thing in both TLH and Hush where he feels the need to do a little tour around the Batman's rogue gallery and insert a new one each issue. It gives a weird guest star type of feel when he could just stay more focused on the actual story.

@BatmanRouges I will say in its defence, it’s more holistic in depicting that transition and I guess that’s the point. While your examples are much more focused. Different strokes I say. It did make me fall in love with Gotham, but idk if I feel as strongly about the characters on their own.
