@CodeRed_dev You have released your game right? I think I saw some ads from a 3rd party account promoting it. How did it go!

I’ve been saying this for a while now. Steam isn’t a launch strategy. It’s a shelf. Distribution density + mental availability - think of it like a new candy bar you launch. Would you launch that in one supermarket chain? Or multiple chains? Would you launch your new candy bar line without any marketing across multiple streams be that below the line or above then line? No. Steam is the supermarket shelf. Mental availability is whether someone walked in already looking for your product. You need to create that kind of demand. Plenty of other platforms willing to help support devs market their games… ;)

@CodeRed_dev I guess, but open steam and take a look at every single game released today... At most you will find 2 games worth checking out, most of it is very low effort or a gamedev course final project. Game jams quality tends to be higher, even if most games are simple demos.

@CodeRed_dev We used to have one or two games released every day, max. Now there's over 20.

@CodeRed_dev Context though, I personally have seen the same game from a godot YouTube tutorial on how to make your own game re skinned twice. Both were over 5 dollars. I recognised it because I did the tutorial as well. I'm sure many of those 5k games didn't deserve their 100 back

@CodeRed_dev Be nice if there was even a small amount of quality control by literally any means. So so so so much AI slop and just (insert random shit) simulator that's been made 10 other times and equally as broken each time and uses entirely free Unity assets.

I suspect this is why many indie devs spend so much time on X and social media. They're desperately trying to get eyes on their game—a perfectly reasonable reaction when selling it is their main objective. But now consider bigger AAA studios. Ever wonder why delays have become more common? I'm not saying every delay is for attention seeking, but could be a possibility.

@CodeRed_dev I would honestly love a feature where we could browse those games on steam. It would be a fun monthly event where everyone went and bought 1 of those games and livestreamed it to hunt for hidden gems.

@CodeRed_dev i read some stat like for 10 000 games released, 100 make their money back, and from those maybe 10 make enough to do a sequel or another game with more funds etc

@CodeRed_dev What most people don't know is that 99,9% of games on Steam are random amateur slop projects with near zero production value. Genuinely professionnal-grade games on Steam are actually very rare

@CodeRed_dev 😬 Soon we will find out how many wishlists our demo will make. If It's too little then I am going solo and hopefully making a unique game to stand out. There are too many incremental games already.

@CodeRed_dev I did manage to recover the $100 fee, but I indeed did not manage to reach $1000. I'm around $900, I may possibly reach $1000 on the long run, but yeah, it's hard 😅
