It takes way too long for devs to learn how to make games without using a tutorial.

@CodeRed_dev root issue is that gamedev a comparatively complex field of software engineering and a lot of indie devs are basically learning to program for the first time while they try to architect a hundred complex systems with no prior experience. tutorials are part of the process

@CodeRed_dev Everything takes way too long. The world is moving faster and faster, time is ticking down for everyone and we all have potentially great ideas that usually have an expiration date (as do we ourselves). It's a frustrating fact of life.

@CodeRed_dev And most tutorials treat you like you already know what they’re talking about

@CodeRed_dev Many things in gamedev are not intuitive like mouse distance to head rotation in a other function. Many tutorials also are bad old\overdetailed in things that does not matter and suddenly rushed in the main points. Tutorials also never invite the new one to play with code.

@CodeRed_dev Don't learn how to make cities. Learn how to make bricks (for example) and join to a team that makes cities ;)

@CodeRed_dev It's about learning to learn. If you didn't learn to learn then it will be pretty hard.

@CodeRed_dev They should spend time to learn concepts. Following tutorials only leads to tech debt and high cost of change.

@CodeRed_dev In godot once you realize half of tutorials are filled with bad practices or greedy people who charges for the code script, you jump out of it

@CodeRed_dev maybe they should make the tutorial first then they better know what the rest will be?

@CodeRed_dev I think for a lot of genres tutorials are outdated and should be avoided if possible, but for others they are definitely needed lol

@CodeRed_dev why is every tutorial now like 20 mins long, I'm not talking about those vids that are basically devblogs, Simple stuff that is kind of hard to explain in words but easy to understand in a 2 min vid.

@CodeRed_dev if you wanna make a game that is truly just made by yourself without tutorials and in 3D, that is a huge amount of knowledge that you need.

@CodeRed_dev I still sneak a main menu tutorial to see what the new tricks are as an indie dev and teacher.
