My best advice is to NOT rely on Motivation, and instead rely on Self-Discipline. Motivation is something that you have no control over, it comes and goes, it's random. Whereas Self-Discipline is something you CAN control. If you truly want to make games as a professional (there are no rules if you're just making it for fun) then you need to treat it like a professional task. Meaning you need to do what you NEED to do whether you feel like it or not. There's not magic answer beyond that, it's just how it is. Good thing is how Self-Discipline is a skill that you can learn! I used to be terrible, back when I started making a living from my games and I tried to force myself to work it did not go well. I was only able to force myself to work about 2 hours per day and that was it. But over time I focused on learning that skill and nowadays I can work 8-10 hour days without issues even if the thing I need to do isn't something I particularly feel like doing. If it has to be done then it has to be done.

@UnityCodeMonkey Do you have any tips for staying on track with your projects? I find myself really excited to work on personal projects one day, and the next I feel no motivation.

@UnityCodeMonkey Motivation can be more of a factor than you think, especiallyusing the flow state. Some days you work 20 hours with almost no sleep and on other days you can also do nothing and chill as long as it evens out🤣

@UnityCodeMonkey If I may ask, how exactly did you learn the skill of self-discipline? Was it a shift in way of thinking, a logging process? I feel like right now I also force myself to work, which causes massive burnout. Not only in my dev journey but honestly most things in my life.

@UnityCodeMonkey Is the start basically learning time management and sticking to some schedule? I am struggling to do anything productive in my free time. 😮‍💨

@UnityCodeMonkey The magic answer to anything seems to be "just do it" Which is so cliche and basic but it seems to be the secret to learning/achieving nearly anything It can be so easy for use to worry about doing it right, or being efficient... When really we just need to do stuff, repeatedly

@UnityCodeMonkey This is the truth. Motivation is random, but self-discipline is controllable—it's pure Me vs You: the version that waits for feelings vs the one that shows up anyway. How did you build that skill over time? 👊

@UnityCodeMonkey Good advice. I am just starting (almost 41 now) and I probably need to rethink my mindset a bit. It's just hard for me because of a) a Dayjob and b) because I need to learn everything from scratch. Programming, Design, the whole shebang.
