Everybody wants someone else’s subsidy.

My wife and I have been getting quotes for our 12x10 deck. Cedar wood, not even composite, is $9,000–$12,000, and we’ve received 5 bids. Is owning overrated? Or is it worth it in the end?

Eric Kaufman, a conservative but fairly honest political scientist, did a bunch of work showing opposition to immigration in the west is primarily driven by racial fear not economics. And the Trump admin is largely driven by the same.

I just can’t sometimes.

Hi. Restaurant and coffee shop owner here. Almond milk runs 2.2x the cost of whole milk. Oat milk is 2.4x, macadamia is 4x and soy is ~2x. We charge more because it costs us more, not because all of us are engaged in a rightwing plot against people who prefer alternatives.

Reminder your CPA has direct access to your refund just moments after you file. Constantly harassing them for updates on where it is makes it go faster

@acemmett91 @thompsonas60002 CA has prop 13. It does some funny stuff. Let’s check on the tax assessments of these homes. You know, for fun.

San Diego is beautiful, especially La Jolla, but I am confused on how anyone can afford to live here, especially in La Jolla

I, too, am interested in a hand out that benefits me and mine specifically. It is only reasonable and moral. As you can see, when people like me benefit, it benefits the country as a whole. It is obviously correct when people that match these specific characteristics are given a leg up. It’s purely coincidence that I also fall into this category. In fact, the reason that our nation is not like it used to be, back when it was better, is because of the lack of this subsidy that I am advocating for. It is governments responsibility to lift up this specifically selected group. The other people, that live somewhere else or are a different age than my cohort, are currently monopolizing the benefit and that is clearly not fair. Their enjoyment of it is detrimental. Our enjoyment of it, however, would be egalitarian.

@Rationalbot You exist in a society with competing interest groups. There is no way to resolve this tension besides recourse to force, which is undesirable and inefficient. The best way to resolve this system is institutionalized bargaining methods to approximate a political coase theorem

This was a rhetorical question. What I meant to say is food deserts are fake and grocery stores already have very thin profit margins

NYPD says video shows Nassadir Tate, 21, fatally punching a man, 55, at a subway station on 3/14. The victim had accidentally bumped into him. Tate was given a misdemeanor desk appearance ticket. One month later, no name of victim, no video, and Tate is still walking free.
