Supporting our NMHSA all stars this morning

You don’t win state championships with talent alone. You win it with: - Kids who dive on the floor for loose balls. - Coaches who demand effort over excuses. - A bench that celebrates every made shot like it’s the winner at the buzzer.

Very sad to watch some kids playing their hearts out to win & others only playing for themselves. Team sports are TEAM sports for a reason. If you’re not there to give everything to your team, you’re there for the wrong reasons. Individuals can be great within a team environment!

Not a lot of dribbling in the NCAA tournament. A ton of CATCH AND SHOOT jumpers though — maybe go work on that more than anything. Not sure how any player that is serious about improving & wanting to play at a high level doesn’t want to go shoot right now

Kobe Bryant shares why most teams get practice wrong and what Phil Jackson taught him about preparation. "Practices are meant to be competitive. If your practices aren't more competitive than the games themselves, you're doing the wrong thing." That's the standard. How you prepare is how you are going to play. "Most of these teams and coaches have gotten into a mindset of resting players. 'Oh, it's too much. We're not gonna practice.' Light day, light day, light day." "Phil never gave us a light day. There was no days off. You show up and you work. You practice." You show up and do the work. No excuses or shortcuts. "Practices are going to be worse. They're gonna be more physical. There's gonna be more trash talking." "And I'm gonna let you know. If you didn't show up today, I'm gonna let you know. And it's gonna be embarrassing, and you're gonna hate it." Then he explained why it all mattered: "But when Game 7 rolls around in the NBA Finals, you will be prepared." That's the tradeoff. Hard now, easy later - or easy now, hard later.
