They hold a formal and absolute distinction between Jews and Zionists, define Zionism as they please, and then hold Jews guilty of whatever they say Zionism is. And if the odd, good Jew gets hurt, you can blame the Zionists for muddying the waters.

This is categorically false, the choice was between war and war, the difference was that under the JCPOA it was only Syrians, Iraqis, Lebanese and Yemenis that had to be on the receiving end of that war. No Americans or Israelis involved? Not a problem for Washington.
