@6Dynamight6 @Brilliand__ there's also a clear lack of withdrawal or tolerance patterns, which are very clear indicators of an addiction. and also a high prevalance without consistent impairment. by categorising porn as an addiction, we run the risk of pathologising normal variations in sexuality.

I have never seen anyone claiming to have a "porn addiction" that didn't have weird patriarchal ideas about sex. I feel like that alone is telling of whether "porn addiction" is real.

It’s clearly, obviously real. But everyone wants to hinge acknowledging its existence along political lines. Social media addiction is real too. And video game addiction. Observable process addictions that people develop. They are distinct from any moral judgment of the behavior.

@evilpostmaker @Brilliand__ I was aware that it was not listed on DSM (many scholars agree that DSM is fairly outdated and needs to be updated). What I didn’t know was the reasoning why the academics are hesitant to list as an actual addiction, and looking into gave me insight
