Rome debased their currency too. We print more, Rome reduced the silver content in each coin to produce more. When you do this and the resources in the economy stay the same or contract, you get inflation. Inflation is like a locomotive going down hill, it starts slow but once it gets going the state will fail.

People are crying out for change - not more Westminster chaos. The PM understands the scale of the challenge & the urgency to act. The worst thing Labour could do is imitate the disorder, dysfunction & chaos of the Conservatives. That would only strengthen Reform & Farage.

@JohnSlinger One thing I’ve not heard anything of from Starmer is a f**king APOLOGY to all the small business owners whose lifes work he has RUINED with his champagne socialist ivory tower fabian economic policies I literally cannot wait until your Labour lot are wiped off the map in 2029

One thing I’ve not heard much of in the debate about who should be Prime Minister of our country is the human being at the centre of this, & his family, & the effect of this on them all. The vitriol is off the scale. Show some humanity. People we disagree with are not enemies

I actually thought if he stayed it would be better than Red Ange or Mad Ed, but having watched this, it’s evident he genuinely hates the electorate. He’s obsessed with ‘communities’ yet the only community that actually needs uniting is the whole of 🇬🇧 under a leader who understands that.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

We will block far right agitators from traveling to Britain this weekend for a march designed to confront and provoke our diverse capital city. We will not allow people to come to the UK, threaten our communities and spread hate on our streets.

@Williamgallus The financial markets understand economics though. If they don’t, they lose money on their investments. Are you suggesting? Let gilt yields run riot crippling us with debt interest? Or create money to purchase the existing debt risking inflation and currency collapse?

“having to prove our credibility to the financial markets who lend us money and delivering change to the electorate that put their trust in us in 2024”. If this is the extent of Labour's reform, we are in for a very rough ride. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

@themildperil @mbostic0 @litewhisperer @JustinWolfers Except in China the deflation was caused by inefficient central planning building literal ghost cities that will never be occupied The total loss of value in China from this is around 85% of the wealth lost in USA from the 2008 financial crisis

@7WheelofFortune @mbostic0 @litewhisperer @JustinWolfers The monetarist perspective on inflation is wrong. If money creation is used to to increase the production of useful resources, then it is disinflationary. See China. If money creation is used to pump asset bubbles, then it is inflationary.

The national debt is like a mortgage — not the problem, as long as there's a beautiful house attached to it. The worry is when it starts looking more like a credit card bill.

@JustinWolfers And you wonder why the economics profession today is a total joke. When you constantly use the credit card/household analogy when talking about this topic your entire knowledge of economics becomes deeply flawed & you sadly believe dollars are scarce which is false. Get real.

@PeterMcCormack Entrepreneurs are a socialists kryptonite They get rewarded for providing value to others and finding a market in a competitive landscape Socialists want to be protected from competition but still feel important and intellectual. This leads them to impose their values on others

Starmer’s speech was basically: 1. More of what hasn’t worked 2. More Europe which is broken 3. More everything I disagree with is far right Bro, leave us alone and stop stealing all our money. The British people are awesome, let them unleash their entrepreneurial power.

People in Britain are being forced to confront the reality of having elected a sinister Marxist ideologue as prime minister. Time to reflect long and hard on what it means to have an electoral system in which such a horrible, destructive person can rise to such a position.

@PuzzlerSharpe That is very true: most of what Starmer is doing is a gleeful acceleration of the loathsome, traitorous Tories' own leftist agenda - largely because it is the same agenda.

Because Peter Mandelson controlled the MP selection process and you ended up a parliament full of new complete non-entities + alienated and excluded the left, who actually do have ideas on how to fix the rot.

Thoughts from a Labour MP: “We have to face up to the fact every single one of them is fucking useless. Andy’s strategy has been a disaster. Angela bottled it. Ed clearly a hiding to nothing. Wes AWOL. God knows what Catherine West is doing. Not quite sure how we ended up here.”

I have a sinking feeling that the powers-that-be, lurking in the murky shadows, are going to keep Starmtrooper in post, despite everything. Their contempt for the electorate is palpable. What I don't know is how long the public will tolerate this abuse of power.
