I was so thrilled tonight to send the revised draft of my next book of poetry, The Locust Years, to @WisebloodBooks. The cover art is being painted on wood by the amazing Michael Cook. Here it is in progress. It is so holy and surreal to see my inner world wake into life.

A poem that is a lamp.

I sat for 20 minutes on a bench and watched a sparrow. I think St. Francis would approve.

@pauljpastor What a gift to live in proximity to clean, swimmable water.

Every day I’m able, rain or shine, warm or cold, I walk down to swim in this pool at first light in the morning. It’s a little like getting baptized among the trout and dipper birds. Cold water heals, strengthens, preserves, and clarifies the mind and soul.

A simple exercise for today’s quick sketch: I used a brush pen to capture the dark parts of a monarch butterfly. That’s all.
