We’ve launched the Institute for Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) at MBZUAI. It is a major step toward strengthening global food security and represents AI innovation designed for farmers, at scale. Our new pioneering digital advisory hub, created with the International Affairs Office at the UAE Presidential Court and the Gates Foundation, is dedicated to improving the lives and livelihoods of over 43 million smallholder farmers through scalable digital advisory tools, training programs, and technical assistance teams. As part of Abu Dhabi’s AI for Agriculture Ecosystem, we are bringing together global partners to turn advanced research and AI capabilities into practical solutions for farmers, governments, and innovators, from scientific discovery to digital advisory, open-source agricultural AI models, and field deployment in climate-vulnerable regions. By developing open-access AI advisory systems, the IAAI will deliver real-time insights on crops, pests, soil, weather, and markets, helping smallholder farmers make better decisions, increase productivity, and build resilience to climate change. As part of Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week, Sami Haddadin, Vice President of Research and Professor of Robotics at MBZUAI took the stage at DriftX discussing human AI synergy. Alongside Dr Majid Khonji, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Khalifa University, Stephane Timpano, Chief Executive Officer at ASPIRE and Fay Arjomandi, Founder and CEO at mimik. During the fireside dialogue Professor Haddadin emphasized: 1️⃣ Safety as the core principle - AI must be built with safety at its heart, protecting not just users, but everyone its actions might touch. 2️⃣ Fusion of physics and AI - Merging foundation models with physics engines will give machines a real-world sense of cause and effect. 3️⃣ Measuring human–AI synergy - The best measure of human–AI collaboration? Real results, think zero accidents, faster systems, and sharper precision. 4️⃣ Open knowledge and AI development - Open-source AI is the foundation of progress. Knowledge grows when everyone can learn, replicate, and build.

Traditional AI models struggle with the unique perspective and tiny objects in satellite imagery. But a team of researchers, including MBZUAI's Doctoral Researcher Akashah Shabbir, Associate Professor of Computer Vision Salman Khan, and Fahad Khan Deputy Department Chair and Professor of Computer Vision have developed GeoPixel – the first model to bring pixel-level grounding to remote sensing. This could offer unprecedented detail for tasks like environmental management, urban planning, and disaster response in the future. GeoPixel can process images up to 4K resolution and precisely link natural language descriptions to individual objects, transforming how we analyze vast geospatial data.
