It was an honor to speak in Budapest today to the Hungarian Competition Authority, as well as meet with President Csaba Balázs Rigó. I look forward to strengthening US-Hungarian bonds even further in the future.

Today the Commission has obtained the largest-ever consumer redress recovery under the Franchise Rule: $17 million dollars that will go back into the pockets of hard-working small business owners trying to create new jobs and opportunity in communities across the country. I am grateful to the FTC staff who oversaw this investigation, and I commend @AFergusonFTC for his dedication to protecting American labor markets.

President Trump has prioritized reducing the cost of housing for all American citizens. The Trump-Vance FTC intends to deliver on that priority.

The Trump-Vance @FTC has brought enforcement actions to protect consumers from this conduct. But today, we are taking further action to ensure honesty and transparency in housing rental agreements. We are asking the public to provide us examples of misleading fees and other practices that drive up the cost of rent. Millions of Americans rent their homes, and many of them have experienced the intense frustration of working through a lease only to discover later that the price they are paying isn’t what they were told. Hidden fees, deceptive advertising, and other scams that inflate the cost of renting a home in America has become a major problem.

Americans shouldn’t have to waste valuable time figuring out how to cancel their subscriptions. We know companies can make cancellation simple and intuitive for their customers. When they don’t, the Trump-Vance FTC will be there to protect American consumers.

The last Administration did a rulemaking on this issue, but royally screwed it up and the courts immediately rejected it. The Trump-Vance FTC want to make sure this is done legally and fairly. That’s why we’ve begun today’s process.

We have a whole market in apps that help you cancel subscriptions to services you didn’t even know you had. Isn’t it weird that American consumers need help cancelling their subscriptions? The Trump-Vance FTC has brought big cases to make it easier to cancel. But today we’re doing more.

Our settlement today compels Walmart to halt practices that allegedly were deceptive and cheated their workers and to restore their rightful pay. American workers deserve nothing less. Next time you tip, you can be confident you’re supporting your delivery driver, not Walmart, Inc.

We alleged that Walmart, in a classic bait-and-switch, would promise their delivery drivers higher pay for more difficult jobs only to consistently bilk the drivers once they did the job. In some instances, we alleged that Walmart even helped themselves to their delivery driver’s tips.

The Trump-Vance @FTC is protecting American workers. We will not tolerate deceitful or unfair practices that cheat workers out of their hard-earned pay. Today, Walmart learned that the hard way and agreed to pay a $100 million settlement to resolve allegations that they systematically deceived their delivery drivers about their pay.
