🇺🇸 My daughter and her husband, like so many young people, had to leave Miami and move to another state b/c the cost of living in So. FL has become unaffordable. No family should have to watch their children leave the community they love to find a better opportunity elsewhere.

You already pay taxes on what you earn. Not on what you already own. Property taxes are one of the most crooked forms of taxation because they turn ownership into a never-ending payment plan to government.

My property tax went from $3,800 in 2019 to $7,200 in 2025. Same house. Same roof. Same crack in the driveway the city never fixed. $7,200 a year just to stay in something I already own and already paid taxes on when I bought it. So let me get this straight. I paid sales tax when I bought it. I pay property tax every year to keep it. I pay insurance every month to protect it. I pay income tax on the money I used to pay for all of it. One house. Four separate taxes. And the school district it sits in still asks me to donate supplies every September. You never actually own a home. You just become the person responsible for the government’s cut of it. Every year. Forever until you die. And then they tax your kids for inheriting it.

I live in Northern California and every single year. My property tax and homeowners insurance goes up. Never comes down. Mine just went up another $102.36 a month I’ve lived here 26 years. I’ve had the same insurance company and only one claim 14 years ago. If I paid my house off tomorrow, I would still owe $550 a month for property taxes and insurance This is flat out robbery

California real estate prices are insane This is a 432 sq ft cottage in Laguna Beach I looked it up and found it was built in 1923 as a ‘0 bedrooms, 1 bath’ The price it’s listed at today is $18.8 million Of course it’s priced this high because of location but in no reality does this price make any sense. Even for a tear down and rebuild it’s going to cost a fortune in permits Let’s not forget that the home will also be taxed at the new higher property tax rates Private equity firms and corporate buyers are buying up these areas - Orange County, includes Laguna Beach, investors bought 23% of homes in 2024 - Investors now own 16% of single-family homes in the county overall - In Southern California coastal areas like OC, LA, and San Diego see elevated investor activity, often 20%+ of purchases Private equity firms own 10% of US apartment units nationally, with significant holdings in California, roughly 290,000+ units
