Oscar threads on X treat the Awards like it’s American Idol. It’s not. It’s six months of campaigns, screenings, consultants, guild politics, press narratives, and yes, how people move during the race. OSCAR campaigns are a strategy. X OSCAR outrage over winners and losers is simplistic rage bait, clickbait morality plays. That said, some run the race with class. Some run it like a victory lap before the votes are counted, making the entire movie, making the entire process about them and only them and not the collaborative process that it was. Also, Safdie participated in some scumbag behavior that I’m sure had some effect. Significant enough that it caused the split between him and his brother. Voters notice. Lots of moving parts, boys and girls.
