Decisions, decisions. Amad Diallo was a penalty. That gets given as a free-kick anywhere else on the pitch. Itโ€™s even more a penalty than the Matheus Cunha penalty (which was a pen, however โ€œsoftโ€). Amad was just less theatrical. Penalty not given. Wrong decision. Harry Maguire was a penalty and red card. DOGSO. Penalty and red card given. Correct decision.ย  Understandable debate over the decisions and inevitable frustration for Manchester United. But United have benefited from decisions that go their way this season. All clubs have these issues, examples, frustrations. The main issue here isย โ€ฆ 1) General standard of officiating in the Premier League. Amad decision was poor. Even more investment required in grass-roots refereeing, in fast-tracking talent, in training up academy graduates who donโ€™t make it as pros, and in continued work to improve further the Select Group refs. PL has some good officials. Just need more. 2) Football belongs to fans, not officials. Fans deserve to know what is going on in real time. When decision/incident being discussed by officials, audio should be played live. The authorities donโ€™t want to, feel it places too much pressure on officials so content themselves with brief explanation when announcing decision and clarification on PL Match Centre. Fans in the stadium and tuning in pay a lot for tickets and subscriptions, respectively, and shouldnโ€™t be kept in the dark. Audio works well in rugby union and cricket (and acknowledging those sports have more pauses in play). l went to a VAR demonstration (not PL) earlier this week given by an elite official. Hearing the audio between officials gave insight into the process - and respect for what they are dealing with at speed, especially with players trying to con them.ย  You are never going to get complete consistency over decisions. Thereโ€™s always going to be an element of subjectivity with so many incidents. But fans deserve more transparency and accountability. It might restore some trust.ย #BOUMUN

British blokesโ€ฆ. Iโ€™ve purchased several โ€œtinsโ€ of Heinz (British) beans because the idea of beans on toast intrigues me. I eagerly anticipate a tasting. Other than toasting bread and heating beansโ€ฆ Are there any other steps/ingredients?

@nffc_14 Hi, they did not go over the PSR limit. However, could be argued that they would not have signed players of the calibre or Hazard, Willian etc had they not made payments to unlicenced agents.

Interesting that in the Everton points deduction verdict the Premier League said โ€œA financial penalty for a club that enjoys the support of a wealthy owner is not a sufficient penaltyโ€ and that โ€œthe requirements of deterrence, vindication of compliant clubs, and the protection of the integrity of the sport demand a sporting sanction in the form of a points deductionโ€™. Presumably the Chelsea fine (which ultimately is just a deduction from what billion dollar Clearlake will pay to billionaire Abramovich from the ยฃ150m held back at the deal date) is then neither punishment, a deterrent or protecting the integrity of the sport? If I was an Everton or Forest fan would not be happy with this outcome.

Good result for Chelsea: club fined only ยฃ10m and given a suspended transfer ban after Premier League found 36 separate undisclosed payments totalling ยฃ47.5m made โ€œto 12 persons or entities on behalf of the clubโ€. Lenient sanctions. No sporting sanctions. Yet these are serious offences, as the sanction agreement between the PL and Chelsea makes clear, stating โ€œthey were not only obvious and deliberate breaches of the rules but also because they involved deception and concealment in relation to financial mattersโ€. Yet no points deductions. Just a manageable (if record) fine and a โ€œsuspended one-year first-team player transfer ban (suspended for two years)โ€. Surely they gained a sporting advantage by recruiting such players? So surely a sporting sanction should be in order? And where's the consistency? In 2008, Luton Town received a 10-point deduction for irregularities in dealing with agents (nb from FA). There still could be some further sanctions by the FA following its "ongoing investigation". PL points to mitigating factors: current owners Clearlake/Todd Boehly in May 2022 voluntarily self-reported potential historical breaches from the Roman Abramovich era. Club co-operated extensively and helped provide (with others) 10,000 documents for PL investigation. PL established โ€œthat between 2011 and 2018, undisclosed payments by third parties associated with the club were made to players, unregistered agents and other third partiesโ€. Payments related to the purchases of players including Eden Hazard, Willian, Samuel Etoโ€™o, David Luiz, Andre Schurrle and Nemanja Matic - there is no suggestion any were aware of the illicit payments. The detailed work of the investigators โ€“ and level of Clearlakeโ€™s co-operation โ€“ is impressive. The sanctions less so. It is a legitimate debate: should a club be punished for offences under a previous owner? Yes, most fans of other clubs would scream. It's a deterrent. And the value of those players' contribution and subsequent sales arguably still benefits the club. PL also investigated โ€œpotential breaches of the Premier Leagueโ€™s Youth Development Rules, committed by a former senior employee, relating to the clubโ€™s registration of Academy players between 2019 and 2022โ€. Again, self-reported by the club, this time in 2025. Chelsea punished with ยฃ750,000 fine and immediate nine-month ban from registering academy players from PL and EFL clubs. #CFC

I am increasingly disillusioned with my reach on X, so I am writing about stuff I like: English idioms. From 1188 to 1902 the Old Bailey Crown Court was attached to Newgate Prison. The condemned men were taken by horse and cart to Tyburn, modern day Marble Arch, to be hung. They were allowed a pint of beer on the way. Stopping off in the Holborn area they had "one for the road". The driver of the horse and cart was not allowed to drink, as he was "on the wagon". Once hung at Tyburn to be put the person out of their misery they would yank their leg to break their neck. I am not "pulling your leg". Often famous or notorious people were hung and people wanted to buy the noose. After all it was "money for old rope".

15,000 tickets at average price of ยฃ60 = ยฃ900k revenue 25,000 tickets at average price of ยฃ25 = ยฃ625k revenue ยฃ275k cost to the club in rough numbers. Whatโ€™s mad is that weโ€™ve got to this stage in a Europa league game, when in theory our entire summer strategy was dependent on which European comp weโ€™d be in. That supposedly dictated our transfer business and potentially the approach to who the manager was going to be, which ruined our season with lack of prep. Now the games at the business end of the comp canโ€™t even sell out. Itโ€™s yet more modern football madness. Itโ€™ll be interesting to see in the future how this European campaign is remembered. #nffc
