Today, Victoria and I attended the State of the City in Brownsville. It was great to hear directly about the progress being made and the direction the city is headed, especially as it continues to take on new opportunities and build on its strengths. Brownsville continues to grow with new investment, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future. There is a lot to be proud of in the work already done, and even more ahead as the city keeps moving forward and expanding opportunity across the region.

Today is National Medal of Honor Day, and Senate District 22 proudly remembers two of our own: Pfc. Daniel R. Edwards and Lt. Col. George Andrew Davis Jr., whose courage in the trenches of WWI and the skies over Korea earned them our Nation’s Highest Decoration for Valor. We humbly thank them and their families for their service, their sacrifice, and the example they set for every American today.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet Vince Young at a Greater Brownsville Incentive Corporation event. Beyond his legendary career on the field, he has built a strong legacy of giving back through the Vince Young Foundation, which focuses on helping young people succeed through mentorship, scholarships, and leadership development programs. His work has included hosting youth football camps, providing college readiness resources, supporting students from underserved communities, and partnering with organizations to expand access to education and opportunity. He has also supported initiatives aimed at strengthening school safety and providing resources for families in need. It is always great to see leaders using their platform to invest in the next generation and make a lasting impact in communities across Texas.

Yesterday, I was in McAllen for an exciting announcement that Valeo is bringing approximately 500 new jobs to the region. This is a huge moment for the Rio Grande Valley and a testament to the strength and momentum we’re seeing across South Texas. Valeo is a global automotive company, and their decision to invest here speaks volumes about the workforce, location, and opportunity the Valley offers. Proud to support efforts that continue to bring jobs, growth, and a bright future to our region!

I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of an AEP Texas employee in Corpus Christi this morning. This is a devastating reminder of the risks so many take every day to keep our communities powered and running. The inclusion of the Chase Field Industrial Airport Complex in the Texas Airport System Plan marks a significant step forward for aviation and economic development in South Texas. I am proud to have supported this effort and appreciate the strong partnership between local leaders, the Bee Development Authority, and TxDOT in making it possible. This designation positions Chase Field for future investment, job creation, and continued growth for Beeville and the surrounding region.
