Combat Search and Rescue is perilous by definition no matter the situation. Executing a recovery deep within Iranian airspace in broad daylight is an entirely different level of risk. With assets operating low and slow, taking fire was a certainty. Regardless, CSAR remains a non-negotiable moral obligation and a sacred promise to every airman. "These things we do that others may live".

In Afghanistan I had the honor of serving in combat alongside Air Force Pararescuemen, who helped evacuate wounded Marines during the Battle of Marjah. Incredibly brave men. Their motto: “These things we do, that others may live.”

US Air Force CSAR personnel are the best in the world at what they do. If anyone can recover a downed aircrew member, it’s going to be them. Praying for them and our missing airman.

NASA has released the first full image of Earth in 54 years. The photo was taken from the Orion spacecraft, which is currently traveling to the Moon. UPDATE: A second Air Force combat plane crashed in the Persian Gulf region, and the lone pilot was safely rescued. The A-10 Warthog went down near the Strait of Hormuz about the same time that an Air Force F-15E was shot down over Iran.
