We produced nearly 100 episodes of @schoolofwarpod in 2025. It was quite a year: authors like Stephen Kotkin (Ep. 180), Andrew Roberts (Ep. 189), @DouglasKMurray (Ep. 193), Walter Russell Mead (Ep. 186), and @barrystrauss (Ep. 224). Public figures like @TomCottonAR (Ep. 183); industry leaders like @anduriltech's @cdbrose (Ep. 259), @UNION_Prime's Will Sommerindyke (Ep. 216), serial CEO @DrJohnHillen (Ep. 195), and @WeAreHII's Eric Chewning (Ep. 172). Episodes covered everything from breaking news (e.g. Operation Midnight Hammer) to civilizational collapse in the Bronze Age to the nature of historical thinking itself. We hit 3 million total downloads. And this fall we finally switched to video (which takes a toll on my ability to multitask while recording!) It's hard to pick favorites, but here are my top 20 episodes from 2025, recommended for your holiday down-time:

First time in the UAE since the ceasefire. Let’s see if it is a glitch or war is restarting.

🚫 CLAIM: Iranian state media claims that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps hit a U.S. warship with two missiles. ✅ TRUTH: No U.S. Navy ships have been struck. U.S. forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports.

The United States is in the process of replacing the 60-year-old Minuteman III nuclear missile with the new Sentinel missile. CBS News' @IanJamesLee has an exclusive look at one of the nation's most secure and destructive weapons.

More from Central Command statement directly: “U.S. military support to Project Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members.”

Or, per the Journal, simply a "process" for "coordination"... how this can be accomplished without Iranian consent OR without escorts is... not entirely clear. I would have a lot of questions if I were the captain of one of these ships.

The president announces what appears to be a limited escort operation to move commercial shipping trapped in the Persian Gulf *out* of the Strait of Hormuz (but not the other direction, it seems…)

I have been very critical of the security and Secret Service performance at the WHCD since the night itself. It's not earning me a lot of friends--but this new video does nothing to mollify my concerns. Standing post is one of the hardest tasks in the world, because USUALLY nothing happens, and yet when things get interesting they can do so quickly, and your whole life could be defined by your actions in those seconds. I go into some of what goes wrong in the video below. The officer who draws and fires his weapon in this video deserves to be commended for being the only officer to be alert and to react in time... but things then get very hairy as he continues to fire, missing his colleagues only by dumb luck (and failing to hit the attacker.) The lax atmosphere at the checkpoint in the video, the decisions made, the training and standards that led to this situation in the first place, all need to be rigorously questioned. This can't be what the Secret Service considers "okay." This is now the third attempt on President Trump's life. This attacker was unserious and apparently tripped just out of frame before being apprehended. The threat is real and the quality of the protection around him needs to be the highest possible in the world. What you see in this video... is not that.

New video shows a police K9 at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ dinner was suspicious of the suspect — just seconds before the suspect charged through the security checkpoint, exchanging gunshots with law enforcement. @AaronBMacLean analyzes the security footage that shows how the incident played out.

A timely assessment of the security lapses that need to be addressed. The only reason Allen didn’t succeed is that he was an incompetent assassin.
