He’s a liberal anti-communist. He has a common enemy with the right broadly in communism and thats where it stops. He hates fascism more than communism because he adheres to the post-war mythos. If you hate fascism but think communism is worse you’ll feel like you have an affinity with his positions but it’s only surface level. He’d happily align with commies against fascism as was done in WWII but since today’s commies are racial commies (racism is the worse thing to him) he’s aligning with the perpetual Jewish victim to fight fascism. It is imperative to his mythology that Nazism specifically and fascism broadly don’t soften in the minds of the citizenry. His ideology is incapable of addressing the issues it’s caused and so the lean towards a more fascistic solution is literally Hell for him. Nothing happened to him. He’s been consistent, it just seems like he’s flip flopping because the latest enemy is fascist and not religious. The religious component is either Christian or Islamic so he has to side with the other option, Judaism as embodied in Israel, the perpetual victim.
