UK, Portugal, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and Romania all playing a key role in the illegal war on Iran. This isn't just Trump and Netanyahu's war. It's Europe's war too
Amerikanets 📉@ripplebrain

Another very interesting piece from the WSJ. These details have been available through OSINT sources but it's a good roundup showing how key Europe is to US operations against Iran: - The central command center for US operations against Iran is within Ramstein Air Base in Germany (unsurprising) - US drone operations are conducted from there as well - American aircraft stationed in Spain have been relocated to France and Germany after the Spanish government denied the use of the Morón and Rota air bases for attacks on Iran - Bomber aircraft sortie out of bases in the UK like RAF Fairford - Refueling operations are based out of Aviano Air Base in Italy and Tubé Air Base in France - Lajes Air Base in the Azores (Portugal) is serving as a major logistical hub, with dozens of aircraft stationed there at various times during the conflict - RC-135 Rivet Joint spy planes are operating out of Souda Bay in Crete - Unspecified "logistics and intelligence assets" are being hosted by Romania The piece paints an amusing picture of European attitudes towards this. Keir Starmer's justification for overcoming his reticence to allow the US to base out of British facilities in the initial wave of strikes is that bomber operations are now "defensive" in nature. Merz has said publicly that this "isn't [Germany's] war," but he has no choice but to allow US operations out of German air bases due to pre-existing legal agreements. Meloni has spun Italian involvement as minor because only refueling missions are flown out of Aviano. Similarly, French defense minister Vautrin said, “a refueling aircraft is a gas station, not a fighter jet." These technicalities may work on the European public, but it's difficult to imagine they'll work on the Iranians.

A former Israeli intelligence officer openly called for nuking Iran in a broadcast, framing catastrophic measures as the only way to achieve “total victory.” Tal Ornan, formerly of Intelligence Unit 504, spoke to Channel 14, arguing that conventional military action alone would be insufficient to subdue Iran’s regime. Ornan compared the Iranian leadership to Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire, highlighting what he described as fanatical resistance and extreme willingness to fight to the death. He claimed there are only two ways to impose total control over Iran: a full-scale invasion reminiscent of Normandy or the use of non-conventional weapons, including nuclear options. He warned that the government’s current measures would fail, no matter how many are killed, and called for “total war” to achieve his goals. Iran’s population is around 92 million, with roughly 50 percent women and over 20 percent children, meaning in such a scenario a large portion of casualties would be women and children.

The controversial US spytech firm Palantir has been awarded a contract to analyse highly sensitive government data, despite loud opposition from campaigners decrying the firm’s role in abetting the Gaza genocide and the immigration crackdown in the US. Palantir will be paid £30,000 per month to analyse highly sensitive data from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), raising questions about what the firm would do with that data – and why Palantir is ever more embedded in the British state. The Miami-based firm already boasts contracts with the UK government worth over £500m, with its technology implanted in the NHS, the police and the military. The latest contract – for which the government named only one, anonymised competitor – is part of the FCA’s drive to clamp down on rule-breakers amongst the 42,000 financial services firms it regulates. Palantir will be given access to troves of financial data and asked to sort it, giving the company founded by billionaire Trump-donor Peter Thiel another view into the inner workings of the UK. Speaking to the Guardian, an FCA insider asked: “Once Palantir understands how we detect money-laundering threats, how do we know that they are ethically reliable enough not to go to share that information?” The multi-billion dollar company has built custom tools for ICE to help it identify targets for deportation in the US and announced a partnership with Israel for battle technology and “war-related missions” in January 2024. Yesterday, MPs urged the Labour government to rethink the latest FCA contract. Green party MP Siân Berry said: “Companies like Palantir should have no place within UK government systems when they are closely involved in President Trump’s illegal wars.” The Greens’ leader, Zack Polanski, launched a campaign against Palantir this January, calling on the government to sever all contracts with the firm. Martin Wrigley, a Liberal Democrat MP and member of the Commons technology committee, said: “We are creating a single behemoth that our UK firms won’t be able to compete against. We should be developing our own industries.” The FCA said that Palantir would not control any sensitive data beyond the scope of the work it will be paid for – and when the contract ends, it will be forced to destroy any data and intellectual property it has seen. Palantir said that it was proud to “support the FCA in their vital work to tackle financial crime”.

Here’s another complaint from “The Free Press” that a hotel had power while a hospital lost power in Cuba. In case The Free Press is merely ignorant and not actively lying to their audience, I’d remind them that the Trump administration changed its rules so private businesses (like the American-owned hotels that Americans are required to stay in) are allowed to buy imported oil but the government (which means all hospitals) is not allowed to import oil. So now that The Free Press is aware of this fact — and rightly thinks it is wrong to deprive a hospital of fuel — I’m sure they will amend this piece and join the rest of the civilized world in demanding Trump end this illegal oil blockade. Right? That’s what they’ll do won’t they?

🚨NEW: A senior Iranian official tells Drop Site’s Jeremy Scahill and Murtaza Husssin: “There aren’t any negotiations taking place. The Iranian side has simply communicated its conditions to [the U.S.] and even that has been done indirectly,” adding that U.S. messages have also only been passed through intermediary countries. 🔸 The same official said Iran’s conditions for ending the war include: 1. A simultaneous ceasefire in Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq, rejecting a limited deal like the 2025 “12-Day War,” which Tehran says was used to buy time for renewed attacks. 2. On missiles, the official said: “Given its defensive nature in countering Israel, this program will continue unchanged and with increased intensity in the event of a ceasefire… The missile program shall not be subject to negotiation under any prospective talks.” 3. On nuclear policy, the official said: “In light of the violations of international law by the United States, as well as Israel’s extensive attacks on nuclear facilities, Iran will formulate a new doctrine,” and that enrichment activities “will continue, either independently or in cooperation with China and Russia.” 4. On reparations: The official added Iran will pursue compensation for damages caused by U.S. and Israeli strikes in any future agreement. 🔸 Iranian officials say Trump’s public statements are aimed at stabilizing markets, with one official saying: “The fact that he publicly responds… is solely intended to manage the financial markets—nothing more.” 🔸 Trump, meanwhile, continues to insist talks are happening, saying his envoys held “very strong talks” and adding he won’t identify the Iranian contact because “I don’t want him to be killed.” 🔸 Iranian officials say U.S. messages, received through intermediaries, are inconsistent and “difficult to assess,” and any willingness to halt attacks appears to be “aimed at reassuring” intermediator countries and are “not taken seriously,” by Tehran. 🎥 @jeremyscahill discusses the latest report on @DanielLDavis1. ⭕️ NBC: President Trump says he believes that Cuba will collapse on its own. Is your country currently in a state of collapse? 🇨🇺 Deputy FM Carlos Fernandez de Cossio: What does “on its own” mean when it’s being forced by the United States? It’s a very bizarre statement, and it’s claimed by most U.S. politicians repeatedly that Cuba will collapse on its own. Then why does the U.S. government need to employ so many resources, so much political capital, so many human resources to try to destroy the economy of another country? Evidently it implies that the country does not have the characteristics to collapse on its own.
Drop Site@DropSiteNews

🇨🇺 Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio: “Yesterday we published that 96,000 Cubans are waiting for surgery as a result of lack of fuel and lack of energy, among them 11,000 children. So I would think that the American people would feel, why does our government treat the whole population of Cuba in this way? And I hope that the people of the United States would understand that it’s not correct to treat another nation in the way the U.S. is doing it simply to try to achieve political goals.” Watch this full exchange. @YousefMunayyer If Netanyahu were to be assassinated would it make Option B easier or harder? Pin all the blame on “the madman” without him being able to retaliate. Or would it trigger an escalation in face-saving?

Trump has, in my view, two possible paths forward, neither are easy but the choice should be obvious. Option A- Continue up the escalation ladder. We are already weeks into this with little change except for rising costs to the global economy and on the brink of irreversible damage. He can hope this works and that at some point the regime will crack but it may also not. He'll hear from many voices around him, especially from Netanyahu & Co, that victory is around the corner, just the next step of the escalation ladder will be the last one needed. These are the same people who sold him the idea this would be a 3 day war. There is no silver bullet, no quick fix. The only sure thing about this path is increased costs. GOP will get routed in the elections in 26 and 28. Option B- Tell Netanyahu it is over. Tell him and the American people this war has to end (spin it however you want, it doesn't matter. Having this convo with the American people today is far less worse than having it 3 months from now). Achieve a negotiated solution around Hormuz, completely reset the US relationship with Israel. This will set Netanyahu up for failure in coming Israeli elections (You could be done with him!). But if you are Trump, better Netanyahu pay the political costs of this blunder than yourself. Failure to choose means everyone else is paying the costs. There is no option C.

This is what Israel is trying to steal under the cover of “security”
Hala Jaber@HalaJaber

South Lebanon is not just rubble & headlines. Between the towns, villages, & hills lies a landscape of extraordinary beauty: fertile valleys, olive groves, rivers, abundant water resources, ancient archaeological sites, & breathtaking natural vistas that rarely make it into the news. This is the region Israel has devastated; villages flattened, towns emptied, over 1 million Lebanese displaced since the escalation began. Yet within the last 48 hours, prominent Israeli voices have openly advocated expanding into southern Lebanon & establishing permanent settlements there, some invoking biblical claims & framing the Litani River as Israel's natural northern border. At the same time, ultra-orthodox & settler-linked groups (tied to Uri Tsafon) have been advertising properties in southern Lebanon for sale on their websites, listings treating Lebanese land as already controllable, with starting prices around 300,000 shekels ($80,000), urging "return to ancestral land." The Litani River itself has been a coveted strategic water resource for Israel since early Zionist proposals in 1919, when leaders like Chaim Weizmann argued for its inclusion in the Jewish homeland to support agriculture & immigration - ambitions echoed by Ben-Gurion & Dayan, who viewed it as Israel's natural northern border. This is not merely about security buffers or temporary military needs. It is about land acquisition, demographic engineering, annexation, and permanent expansion under the cover of war. The footage and stills show what they are trying to take: a region of profound natural, historical, and cultural richness. This is what is at stake, & what the resistance is fighting against, & will not allow to materialise. This is what the headlines rarely show. This is what they are trying to steal. 😔🕊️

NY Times has essentially confirmed that Israel played a role in stimulating the violent regime change riots that left around 3000 dead in Iran this January 8 and 9, but which were marketed in the West as pro-democracy protests. It was well understood by the Mossad that those riots would help stimulate military action by Trump. Israeli intel merely needed to convince the feeble-minded president that a wave of decapitation strikes would unleash a massive upheaval to immediately topple the Islamic Republic. The January riots were presented to Trump as a preview of what was to come. Western media, including the NY Times and The Guardian, played a central role in legitimizing Israel's deception by falsely characterizing the violent regime change riots as mere protests, massively inflating the death toll and covering up the fact that many were murdered by the Israel-backed rioters themselves The whole of Western media and the Western human rights industrial complex deliberately misrepresented the real character of those riots. But now that the war they helped to instigate is going badly for the US and Israel, that same media is now free to reveal a few kernels of truth.
