Hier, in het hart van een continent dat beweert te staan voor mensenrechten, rechtvaardigheid en waardigheid, hebben de journalisten hun professionele verantwoordelijkheid en zelfs hun morele objectiviteit volledig opgegeven. Het is mij duidelijk dat mijn 40.000 dappere, onschuldige landgenoten die zijn afgeslacht in de strijd voor vrijheid, voor deze journalisten van weinig belang zijn. Zij lijken meer geïnteresseerd in het bekritiseren van Amerika en in het stellen van vragen waarom de Verenigde Staten en Israël de dictator hebben gedood die ons volk al 47 jaar afslacht, dan in het bekritiseren van het regime dat verantwoordelijk is voor het bloedvergieten. Zij lijken meer geïnteresseerd in vragen over het verleden en de geschiedenis van Iran dan over wat er vandaag in Iran gebeurt, of over de democratische toekomst waar Iraniërs naar streven. Een parlementslid vertelde mij zelfs dat men niet dacht dat Iraniërs klaar waren voor democratie. Tegen dat parlementslid en tegen de journalisten zeg ik dit: Iraniërs zijn niet alleen klaar voor democratie, 40.000 mensen hebben er zojuist hun leven voor gegeven, en ik zal niet toestaan dat dat tevergeefs is geweest. Weet dus dit: of Europa ons nu steunt of niet, of uw journalisten hun werk doen of niet, of uw politici de moed tonen om te handelen of niet, ik zal blijven vechten voor mijn volk en mijn land. We Iranians are living in horror and it is beyond sad that international media barely talks about it. I believe this silence will embolden the regime to turn mass arrests into mass executions. His name was Abolhassan Montazer, and he had heart and lung disease. They denied him medicine.
