What I wanted more than anything in the world, wanted with every cell in my body, was for my children to grow up to love Jesus. It was the prayer above all other prayers I prayed for them. I knew if they loved Jesus, they’d return to him when they strayed, they’d endure in their sufferings, they’d sooner or later repent of their sins, they’d ultimately surrender to his will, they’d love his words, love their neighbors and they’d be people of character. The one thing would finally be the everything.
When I say that our children had flawed parents, it’s an understatement. Keith and I will not be holding marriage and family seminars so please look elsewhere for those. But we could hold a seminar on grace. We could hold a seminar on mercy. We could maybe hold a seminar on hope. And we could definitely hold a seminar on what it’s like for your children to turn out better than you did. We are not going to hold a seminar, mind you. I’m just saying we could. Lol.
Anyway, my daughters would be very annoyed with me if I made it sound like they were exemplary. I’m not saying that. I’m just saying that, when I’ve arrived at my last few minutes before seeing the face of Jesus, if I have a coherent mind and a mouth that can speak, I will thank him with everything in me for hearing the most repetitive prayer this former pit dweller prayed for her children.

Want to give your child a leg up in kindergarten?
Expose them to a million extra words. It’s easier than it sounds.
I wrote recently about the vocabulary building power of reading aloud to your child.
Books expose children to new worlds through their storytelling - and with those new worlds come new WORDS. Words that you may not have had occasion to use otherwise.
Reading develops this vocabulary quality in part through vocabulary quantity.
A recent study from Ohio State University suggests that children who are read five books a day from infancy will be exposed to 1.4 million more words by kindergarten than those who lack this advantage.
If five books seems like a lot, rest assured that there’s advantage to any reading at all. Children read a single book a day will benefit to the tune of 290,000 more words.
A rich vocabulary lends itself to explosive reading growth when the time comes. That’s because you can’t truly decode words you don’t know.
So read, read, read with your little one. You’ll be amazed by the return on investment.

After your graciousness, I’ll share a couple of good recipes with y’all in a thread. I have to admit when someone has me beat and my friend Jan Morton’s southern cornbread dressing surpasses mine. The best, most consistent recipe for it I’ve ever tasted. granjansjoy.com/2016/11/dressi…

Doing research for an upcoming event, and these statistics blew me away. In the US, we have lost 567,000 teachers since the pandemic. In 2010, 30,000 students were studying to become teachers, & that number, in 2017 was down to 13,700. Something must be done.
