If you watch Beckenbauer at WC 66 and 70 you’d reach this conclusion as well. He had more impact on the game as a box to box midfielder, the best ever in this role as far as I’m concerned. When he dropped to the backline his range of influence was much more limited.

Whoever convinced Beckenbauer to transition from midfielder to libero was a total enemy of football and an idiot. Gave up nearly everything that made Beckenbauer a legendary and unique player just to be a decent defender with good distribution. Disgusting!
