Inês Carneiro also presented how scientific illustration can be used to communicate Azorean #deepsea benthic communities to the public. Scientific illustration is part of the our communication plan to create appealing and memorable images to bring people closer to the deep sea.

Our team member @anais_sdv also presented the work done as part of her PhD thesis on the effects of ocean warming across the life-history stages of the cold-water coral Dentomuricea aff. meteor, one of the most important gorgonian species found on seamount summits of the Azores.

This week, our team is participating at the #17DSBS in Hong Kong. Telmo Morato presented today how cost-effective #biodiversity assessments can be useful to inform conservation policies and a sustainable management of #deepsea ecosystems, based on our experience in the Azores.

During the workshop, @marina_carreiro presented a summary of the experimental work that our group has been conducting in recent years to better understand the potential impacts of #deepsea mining activities on the wellbeing of cold-water coral species.

Last week, our group members @marina_carreiro, @InesMartinsUAc, @AntonioGod85 & Beatriz Arzeni participated in the DeepRisk workshop “Environmental challenges associated with deep-sea mining”, contributing to the discussions on the potential impacts of mining on #deepsea habitats

Yesterday we had an official visit of Mr. Xanana Gusmão, PM of East Timor, to the facilities of our institute @OkeanosUac We showed him our work regarding #deepsea exploration, taxonomy and aquaria experiments, and how our technology can help towards democratise #deepsea research
