A common name for them is sand hoppers. Sand fleas do live in North Carolina but they’re not a major concern like in some areas South of us. On the right is a sandfiddler. Sand fiddlers are decapod crustaceans. They’re sometimes called mole crabs because they burrow into the sand. When I post about local cultural names, I’m sharing MY North Carolina experience… one MANY can relate to. Does that cancel out your experience?
