I just setup a #bip110 node for someone at their house. It used an old PC with a 1TB drive. I had to use Ubuntu minimal server install (no gui, nothing), and lowered the reserved space by ext4. When it finally finished syncing, the drive was 93% full. It will stop working at 95%. That should allow this person to support bip110 for 12 months, after which the volume of spam on the Bitcoin blockchain will render this machine unusable as a full node. Spam is going to price this person out of running a Bitcoin node. Is that fair or right? Should plebs be forced to give up running a Bitcoin node through the actions of others?

Taproot scripts and UTXO-set size also affect hardware requirements outside of storage, and both are made more severe by spam. Sound money usage produces very lightweight transactions that are trivial to process.
