@Estoppelenjoyer @TheTonus Yes, you do strip the citizenship. It’s not fair to anyone else in the country to not. You use to chose who to be “fair” to

@TheTonus I think that that has to be the correct answer though. If a spy has a baby, but we don’t find out they’re a spy until decades later, would we strip their adult child of citizenship? How would that be fair?

This exchange could genuinely flip a vote in Trump's favor. The ACLU arguing foreigners operating in the United States at the request of a foreign military/state (China, Iran, etc.) should get to anchor here as a function of the 14th amendment is quite literally insane.
Benjamin Weingarten@bhweingarten

Justice Alito: Would you agree citizenship test in 14th Amendment is same as test in 1866 Civil Rights Act? Respondents: Words are obviously different. What Wong Kim Ark and debates tell us is that Congress was trying to do same thing with both. They wanted to encompass Common Law exception and Indian exception. Alito: Do they mean the same thing? Respondents: Framers were trying to do the same thing with the language in both. Alito: 1866 is more straightforward. "Not subject to any foreign power" is pretty straightforward. So if a boy is born here to an Iranian father who has entered illegally. That boy is automatically an Iranian national at birth. He has a duty to provide military service to Iranian government. Is he not subject to any foreign power? Respondents: No, what framers meant was referring to ambassador exception. If it meant not subject "of" foreign power, than lawful permanent residents -- Alito: Ordinary meaning would certainly encompass that boy, wouldn't it? Respondents: Shift to language of 14th Amendment clears up ambiguity. Alito: What I said of boy born to Iranian father is true to children born to nationals of other countries -- Russian parents, etc. Sure seems like that makes them subject to a foreign power. Respondents: That would've meant children of Irish, Italian, other immigrants -- which Wong Kim Ark and Framers allude to -- wouldn't count either. No foreign nationals' children would get citizenship. Alito: Difference is children could be naturalized when parents were naturalized in those cases.

my prediction, subject to revision after hearing the arguments today: 9-0 against the administration on statutory grounds, with maybe Alito saying that the administration's interpretation isn't necessarily unconstitutional.

@shiddandfardd @PalmyrPar Because if they can, they’ll say this and do nothing. The must acknowledge the corruption that led to this or it’ll happen again and again, while they lock up who sounded the alarm so they don’t have to issue another statement.

"the 14th amendment doesn't cover children of illegal aliens because there was no such thing as illegal aliens when it was ratified" is the same argument as "the 2nd amendment doesn't cover automatic weapons because they didn't exist then"

@MattWalshBlog Wouldn't it be better to balance things up a bit? At the moment it feels like the SCOTUS leans a bit far conservative, so a liberal or a moderate would bring it back into more neutral territory, surely?

Clarence Thomas is a brilliant man and one of the greatest justices of all time. He also needs to retire immediately. He's 77 years old. If Democrats win the midterms and then the presidency, which they very likely could, there's a significant chance they will get to replace him with another Kentanji Brown Jackson. That would be a disaster for the country. We need to get young conservatives on the court right now. Alito, too. He's 76.

Interesting how the negative replies are from foreigners, who don’t live here, while all the Japanese replies are happy that this British woman decided to take Japanese citizenship. おめでとうございます🎊

Actually this shows she was a good pick for her side. A higher court is just a small legislature and she is a reliable vote. I don’t like it but that’s how the system actually works.
Brandon Gill@realBrandonGill

To illustrate the total absurdity of Justice Jackson, she ruled last year that states *do not* have the right to ban child sex changes, but ruled today that states *do* have the right to ban counselors from telling boys they are not girls.

@SouthernMB82 I’m sorry that you and your families are struggling bc other people work harder instead of playing the victim hard. It must be hard being white and losing at life. I’ll pray for you. It might help if you get off welfare and work for a living.

I am realizing that many Latter Day Saints on here only support you if you follow all the rules and never question anything or have any genuine struggles when change happens. I really wish everyone well and will continually pray for you but I think I need to make some changes. I will continue to donate tithing and fast offerings and will live the gospel as faithfully as I can.

@SouthernMB82 It’s always the case. The idea of a universal melting pot is very modern, not present in the founding, and clearly failed People cling it to though, but it’s like clinging to communism. They think we just need to do a bit more and it’ll finally work, it’s not been tried right yet

Sit back and think about how crazy this is. Not a single person involved with this article pushing to spend American tax dollars is actually an American. Every single one of them is here because of the Hart-Celler Act of 1965. There isn’t a drop of Heritage American in their blood at all. They all support socialist policies. They all come from countries with incompatible cultures. ADOS/FBAs and white Heritage Americans never voted for our country to be over-run with foreigners who see us as an economic zone ripe for the picking. Make no mistake about it. That is exactly how these people see our country — a piggy bank for their dreams. They never fully assimilate. They cling to their homelands politically and culturally while robbing us blind. If our country ever collapses, these same people will be the first to flee to their homelands while we are stuck here fixing everything. We deserve better from the GOP and Democrats. We really do.
Southern Mama@SouthernMB82

A woman by the name of Karen Yi is writing an article using first-generation “American” Allison Lew and Filipino-born Paola Rodelas to push for a “free” childcare program that newly elected Ugandan-born Zohran Mamdani promised to give them during his campaign. Lew is a senior community organizer with the New Yorkers United for Child Care. She obviously has an agenda and shouldn’t have been included in the article. Using her just makes this a propaganda piece. Heritage Americans will be the ones primarily responsible for paying for this “free” childcare so that naturalized citizens who wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for the Hart-Celler Act can have more babies. That is insane to me.

I don't care about illegal immigrants at all. I don't care if they have housing or not. I care about citizens of this country. Illegals can go home if they want someone to care about them.

@ShamashAran Would you prefer that "illegal" immigrants are homeless? I don't understand your logic here. Seems inhuman.
