We study membrane and microtubules fluctuations using flickering spectroscopy, simulations and theory. The main message: the MTs push on the membrane and deform it, but are deflected by this soft boundary and hence "transport" the deformations along the membrane creating "waves"

If you ever need an overview of measurement methods of network #mechanics, here's a suggestion 😎 (Fig. 3 in our review) #Teaching Including work by @BauschLab @SchmollerLab on how actin networks with alpha actinin form bundles and stiffen after repeated shearing.

My first paper is out now. 🎉 We reconstitute the formation of VASP condensates on bilayers, which nucleate, polymerize and bundle actin filaments. The bundles grow by enhanced polymerization aligned to filaments. Thanks to @BleicherPhilip, @MarcoPayr and of course @Bauschlab.

Happy to see this fun collaboration out! Scroll down for more on the dual encoding of patterning and mechanics by morphogens, to preserve patterns throughout complex 3d morphogenesis!
Heisenberg Lab@HeisenbergCPLab

How are tissue patterning and mechanics coupled during complex 3D morphogenesis? 🤔Our new preprint by @diana__pinheiro shows that a morphogen gradient orchestrates pattern-preserving morphogenesis via motility-driven unjamming! Read here: tinyurl.com/2p9xm9y7 🧵🔽1/n

New paper out in @NatureComms: polar patterns of filaments gliding *on a sphere*🌐nature.com/articles/s4146… A project from my PhD I love, with co-first Chiao-Peng and our old student Alice. Here a [long!] thread, with a bit of backstory, results, discussion and...cool movies!🧵1/22

Make a dough and let it rise; observe it to self-organise. Don't forget to mention, though; it is an MT-actin dough. Our minds are very bright; we made a smart composite. We are writing history; the composite has memory. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

🔥NEW PREPRINT🔥 How are collectively migrating cells constrained by the curvature & topology of 3D systems? We discovered a collective velocity wave propagating in such a system & show that it emerges as a response of active matter to curvature 👉 arxiv.org/abs/2110.14614
