There is nothing patriotic about outsourcing Britain’s foreign policy to Donald Trump. Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage want Britain to blindly follow Trump into his reckless war, even though the President has no plan for what comes next.

@LewisOrmston I didn’t know that Angela Rippon was a parliamentarian. Every day is a school day.

@IanMearnsExMP Somewhat unparliamentary language - you’ll never get to the House of Lords saying things like that Ian

My Column in today’s Journal reflects on turning 60. It deploys a supporting cast of Philip Larkin, Alan Bennett, Robertson Davies and especially, Jarvis Cocker. Full text here: academia.edu/164819084/On_T…

@simon_schama Snap! We raised our kids on ‘Any Old Iron’, ‘My old Man’ and lesser treats from my parents’ time in Variety including ‘When you’re feeling glum glum glum glum always start to hum’, sung until they got out of bed every morning. Funnily enough, not the children’s fondest memory.

oh this is absolutely WONDERFUL !!!! my mum used to sing me Marie Lloyd songs as lullabies - and my wife and I sang " My Old Man" etc to our kids when they were nippers in the 1980s! ( probably the only house in Massachusetts to do that)

If you're a JAMES MASON fan and the history of London fascinates you you'll love this clip from an wonderfully fascinating, little seen film called  THE LONDON NOBODY KNOWS (1967)

totally wonderful - but might have been by John Fletcher who wrote Henry VIII with Shakespeare. To me it has the authentic ring of Shakespeare himself - but it was a collaboratively written play
Lee Brown@leebrown2

Goosebumps! People often ask, is Shakespeare still relevant? Here is a great example, from the Steven Colbert Show, in which Sir Ian McKellen delivers an extraordinary speech. Shakespeare’s words are timeless, urgent and important. #Shakespeare #ianmckellen #stevencolbert

I remember the state of Newton Aycliffe town centre well from the Sedgefield by election now nearly 20 years ago. It was on its last legs then - the health centre was particularly grim. Labour made much of how they were going to sort it. 😬 theguardian.com/society/ng-int…

BREAKING: Gavin Newsom just obliterated Trump’s might-makes-right regime in 90 seconds. No fear. Just a full-throated defense of law, democracy, and human dignity. This is a must-watch.

⭕️IRAN – A QUESTION TO THE WORLD The end of the Islamic regime in Iran is approaching. History is entering a decisive moment. And now the question is being asked openly by millions of Iranians: Who is standing with the people of Iran in their struggle for freedom, dignity, and national sovereignty? Who stands with a nation that has risen, unarmed, determined, and united, to reclaim its future? Who stands with the streets, the students, the workers, the mothers, and the martyrs? This is no longer a regional issue. This is a moral test for the international community. Iran is rising. And the world is being watched.

@Matt_building Alan was a renaissance man and a terrific history tutor. His EU stance had far too much to do with the parallels he saw with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His despair at what became of UKIP reminds us that no parent is entirely to blame for the errors of their children.

Below is a screengrab from Dr Alan Sked's entry in Wikipedia, he co-founded UKIP in 1994, but left in May 1997 because he was unhappy with Farage's attitude and behaviour and the party's growing links with the BNP. Nigel Farage was 33 when Sked left UKIP in protest
