What a story! Must have been amazing to have been there when it was operating at full capacity. There is definitely a lot of rebuilding that needs to be done, on infrastructure and the skill. But that’s the case for anywhere we do this in the US for new shipyards. There are few other places where the setup is better than the combination of Solano Shipyard and Mare Island.

This is the time of year I usually renew my fishing license. This year it is $104.83. I love to fish but I hate that the Democrats are making it inaccessible for many Washingtonians. I have to mull this over for a bit. Hunting costs are even worse.

I just know there are lots of huge hurdles. It's a sad waste just sitting there. It should have never been closed. It was a horrible decision.

The huge rollers, benders, and machining equipment are all gone. Many of the industrial buildings have been leased or sold to private companies that don't do any maritime work.

It needs constant dredging. Subs need 35ft. It hasn't been dredged in decades and the environmentalists will scream. This was part of the BRAC reason.

Yes! the ww2 infrastructure is still there that fed the Navy in SFB & Mare. Drive along the river and you still see oil infra, power infra, orginally designed for this purpose. I’d add El Dorado County as well since the American River & Corp of Engineers operate Folsom Lake that feeds the Delta. Otherwise you’ll be fighting with the power companies that operate the dams.

Nose down the level and repeat until water goes in the hatch. It did lead to some very strict controls and safety improvements.
