@AndertonMol @zenahitz 100% agree that this is the case — we just went through the process. But it boggles my mind that smaller schools, seeing their own numbers and the overall landscape, continue to cling to an approach that isn’t working. They’d rather die pricey and “prestigious” than survive

@BermanatorNFT @zenahitz It's like an arms race I guess. It's not just liberal arts schools. Big state schools do it too. For non-financial aid qualified it's bizarro dynamic pricing. They only want to extend offers to those who will accept. So they offer "merit" aid as a discount. It's horrible!

@AndertonMol @zenahitz A humanities education is supposed to stress critical thinking, and yet the mindset here seems to be “well everyone else does it this way so it must be the best way, regardless of what our financials say.”

@AndertonMol @zenahitz Ok but … why? It doesn’t take a liberal arts grad to see this isn’t working. How many schools are gonna go out of business clinging to a sticker price out of vanity instead of just charging what the vast majority of people pay anyway and stressing value?

@GilberteDSL @souljagoyteller Yeah, but the schools brought this narrative on themselves. Nobody forced them to list a $75,000 sticker price for something that most pay less than. The price tag is what people see, and what makes the papers when anyone wants to write about how expensive college is

How about this: people should be able to get an English degree from a quirky liberal arts school for less than $10,000 dollars
Chicago Sausage Bonds@froman86

@TheStalwart Most private liberal arts colleges need to die. There is absolutely no reasons someone should have to take on $160,000 in debt for an English degree when they can get the same degree for a fraction of the cost at a superior flagship state school

@souljagoyteller @judithslutler69 Humanities grad here! They are worth pursuing, but is it worth saddling yourself with crippling student loan debt for? The answer can’t be to borrow, get the degree, and then hope for a student loan forgiveness bill to become law someday

@judithslutler69 The humanities are not simply the “easy way out”. They are worthy pursuits in their own right

@TedStarkey @NickM_hockey So … the win-loss record post-trade doesn’t matter, it’s that the players were sad their friends got dealt? It makes me sad when people are so committed to the narrative that they ignore data that clearly contradicts it

Washington never filled the Top 6 hole all season long, and a strange trade deadline thinned the defense and strained the room. Yet Capitals remained alive until Game 81. Had they acted or even stood pat may not have missed.

it doesn't rly matter if this much reading should theoretically be "easy" - at some point u have 2 contend with the concrete reality that ppl are not gonna do it and that theres a reason theyre not, nd theyre not gonna be bullied into doing it either

200-300 pages a week is fucking delusional. people have jobs and responsibilities – their time is less free than ever!!! a lot of the shit they assign as readings in the humanities is also total garbage lmfao, maybe 30-40% is worth reading

@MZavagno11 Well, if you’re incapable of responding to feedback with anything other than “what does this have to do with the NBA draft lottery,” it seems like a waste of time for anyone to try to convince you otherwise

@pamelam35 OK, but are most gamblers’ approaches similar to his, or similar to yours? You’re doing this for a living, the betting apps are taking money from guys like this for a living, and there are way more like him than like you.

“If you were given $10,000 to gamble away…” already tells you the story they want. It frames gambling as losing before anything even happens. From there, it’s just curation. You’ve got a beginner with no process, on a deadline, spending free money..and that gets positioned like it represents the whole space. There’s no separation between casual betting, reckless behavior, and actual strategy. That’s the issue. I work in this space, so I’m not pretending to be neutral but this isn’t a real evaluation of the industry. It’s the most predictable failure case presented like it means something bigger. If the goal was understanding, you wouldn’t run the test on someone who doesn’t even know basic bet types and call the result a conclusion.
CBS Mornings@CBSMornings

“It only took a few weeks before I was hiding in the kitchen pantry to put my bets in, so my kids didn’t see how much I was gambling”: @TheAtlantic gave @mckaycoppins $10,000 as part of his investigation into online sports gambling — and he came out with far less money and some insight into how gamblers get hooked on apps like FanDuel and DraftKings.

@SmPotatoes Problem you have is that “me and the echo chamber I facilitate online” doesn’t match the impact of the apple ballot. Part of why people come to MoCo for the teachers. Not a shock that non-MAGA folks value their opinions here.

This is our local GOP in a nutshell. They’ve had no luck getting voters on policy, so their only tactic is to try to make a content voter base really unhappy. Hasn’t worked locally in decades, but when all you have is a megaphone and a lot of whines to release, this is the result

Is Wes Moore super cool? He happens of Photographers, social media experts, and other paid positions to make him look cool while our state is floundering.

@SmPotatoes I guess we’ll see in November, but wishing that were the case doesn’t make it so. The BoE’s mission isn’t to make sure a few neighborhoods in Rockville keep their kids within walking distance of school. It may shock you to know there are students outside Rockville!
