Last week, I visited one of these "schools" with my mother right after she picked me up from a flight into SeaTac. It was only 15 minutes away from the airport. On our short drive, we passed several school busses. It was right around the time kids would be leaving school. When we arrived, we saw nothing. No kids. No parents waiting in cars. No school busses. Not even a sign. We say an empty, dilapidated building with rotten holes in its siding, sagging and dirty blinds (choking hazard), and some rooms filled to the ceiling with boxes (fall hazard). All entrances were fenced off, and it looked like the only way in was through the church-converted-to-a-mosque that shared a courtyard with the "school." Attached are photos of the building's rear, overgrown with blackberry bushes. A knocked-over basketball hoop was outside the fence, lying feet away from where cars would drive through the alleyway. This is not a safe play area for children. Nevertheless, the school receives support from WA State in the six-figure range.
