Meet Dhrumil Premji Patel (33), a plywood businessman from Mumbai, and his wife Minal Patel (32), ordinary lives taken off track by a minor’s negligence. > On 5 Feb, around 11:15 pm in Vidyavihar near Somaiya College, the Patels were returning home on their scooter after closing work for the day. > A 17-year-old boy allegedly driving a Kia SUV at high speed rammed his vehicle into their scooter. > The force of the collision flung them several feet away and both suffered grave injuries. > Dhrumil was put on ventilator support and battled for his life for 10 days in hospital. > On 16 Feb, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind his wife. > Minal is still in hospital after multiple surgeries and remains critical. > Police have registered a case against the teen and also invoked charges against his father for letting a minor drive. One crash. One father dead. One wife fighting for life. Reckless driving by minors isn’t just statistics, it destroys families. How many more tragedies until accountability becomes law, not exception?
