Obviously there is some blind black tribal loyalty involved, but I think there’s something else and arguably worse.
The facts seem to be this: Karmelo invaded another track team’s tent. He did this to assert dominance. When asked to leave, he issued threats: “touch me and see what happens.” After repeatedly telling him that he was not welcome, and in response to provocation, Austin Metcalf pushed him, trying to get him to comply with basic social norms. Karmelo, no doubt delighted that he had now received permission for escalation under his own code, stabbed Austin to death.
The black defenders of Karmelo believe this is how society should operate: an endless war of all against all to assert dominance, escalating when one’s assertions are rebuffed. They’re mad that the justice system got involved, because in their minds this is the proper way to conduct business: omnipresent dominance signaling, inevitably leading to violence.
They genuinely don’t understand that other people don’t operate according to those rules. And they certainly don’t understand that our rules, by drastically reducing friction and needless cost, are the very reason for the disparities in group power they complain about. We are polite internally and can thus exert greater collective power externally. A few Karmelos in the mix destroys this system.
But they don’t care that running things their way would be the end of civilization, the end of their cell phones and EBT and air conditioning, because they don’t understand it. They don’t understand anything about the modern world. They are lost here, confused. This state of affairs is not sustainable.

The “Obsession” art director post is insane. I can’t believe no one talked her about of it.
For context, she agreed to a rate of $300 a day for a film with a very low budget.
It ended up being one of the most talked about and lucrative films of the year. And now she’s upset about the rate from 2 years ago.
You literally were the art director for the most TALKED ABOUT original film of 2026. You could leverage that and charge an extremely high rate on your next films and become so insanely rich and in demand.
Instead, she chose to complain about a rate that he agreed to.
This makes people in the industry think that you’re hard to work with.
In the creative industry, sometimes this just happens. Many photographers or models will take almost no pay to shoot a Vogue cover or some big magazine cover but then they get the ability to be able to charge high rates for campaigns.

The Obsession art director post. Man, what a choice. One year total experience. Only credit pre-Obsession is a single short film. Sign on to a low budget indie. Agree to rate. Movie explodes. You're suddenly the Art Director fo the most talked about film of the year. If this ever happens to you, let me give one piece of advice. Embrace it. Use the credit to fight off offers, get a BTL agent, turn those difficult three weeks into an incredible career. Do NOT cut every connection you have to the filmmakers, put out tweets about how you wish you'd shut down their production, and complain about the rate you agreed to (which isn't even like $100 or some student film sketchiness). Do you know how many indies I have done as an actor for $240/day? A fucking lot. Every single time I know what I'm getting into and I hope to god it turns out well and leads to another opportunity. I cannot even imagine getting cast in Obsession and then putting out a career ruining post about it instead of trying to leverage it into more work.
