On edge with the #AssistedDying debate all evening at the Scottish Parliament. I hope so much the bill passes. As a farmer and palliative care worker, I know in my heart that giving people the choice to have a dignified death is so important. An incredible evening of debate.

@Scrappyd000000 I respect your view, sir but I don’t share it. Pain control failed my dear father. I sincerely believe there is room for much better palliative care and #AssistedDying in tightly controlled situations, as proposed. Best wishes to you.

@BordersRayLD No. Its not our place to do this sir. Its the Lords. There is pain control and methods so we use those where possible.

I can still see the look in my Dad’s eyes when, in his dying days pain he said “please make it stop”. He was religious & may not have chosen #AssistedDying (we’ll never know) but he should have had the choice. It’s time for the law to change.

Patricia is right - this was my experience with my Dad. His pancreatic cancer was terminal & rapid - he was badly cared for in his final days (hospital under horrendous pressure & awful readmission rules meaning hours in A&E in pain). We can and must do better #AssistedDying
