Construction AI piece worth reading. In industries where "ground truth" is what's physically installed, not what's written down any sort of error matters more. The companies building audit trails and source verification into the workflow are playing a different game than the ones shipping generic copilots. constructiondive.com/news/ai-halluc…

@jasonlk @buccocapital These same companies are not excited about change. They want to keep the same people because they’ve “proven themselves.” Instead of realizing that orgs change and the means the people might have to as well.

@buccocapital You are right that in these companies, 80% of the management team and 50% of the lay employees are dragging you down They don’t want change They don’t understand AI They don’t try AI agents They want to run the 2022 playbook They don’t get it They are scared

90% of the bloat in midcap tech companies is the result of weak, ineffective leaders who are unable to stand up their their good VPs and fire their bad ones They let their good VPs build redundant and bloated fiefdoms. They promote them to CXO titles to retain them, which slows down the organization as everyone else becomes confused on who calls the shots Then, instead of firing their ineffective VPs, they build defensive and redundant scaffolding around them. This protects the organization from catastrophic failure but adds more bloat This all works (well enough, at least) when revenue is growing quickly and profits don’t matter. And it is catastrophic when revenue slows and profits matter At almost all of these companies the problem is the CEO. It is war time now. If you are going to bet on a company that is down 50-70% already, you had better be betting on the right jockey. If they are guilty of these sins, and many of them are, do you believe they have seen the light? Are they willing to do what needs to be done to fix it? I think the safe and correct assumption is that many are not up to task. It should have happened in 2022. Ask yourself: Why will it be different this time?

@awwstn I mean, maybe? Super depends on the application layer?

3/ If you're building in this space: go watch the work happen. Not in a demo. On a jobsite. Everything else follows from that. The space is hungry for founders who actually understand construction.

2/ Field adoption is the hidden killer. A beautiful office UI means nothing if a foreman with 30 years of dirt experience won't touch it. Most construction software fails here.

Just wrapped ConExpo. Few thoughts on construction tech: 1/ There's a massive gap right now. Tons of point solutions (estimating, field reporting, asset tracking) but contractors are still duct-taping 5+ tools together to move data from field to finance.

Larry Ellison - college dropout. Didn’t start Oracle until a decade ago later Jensen Huang - director at LSI logic. Nvidia not started for another 5 years. Amancio Ortega - working at a shirt shop in Spain as an assistant. Warren Buffett - investment salesman at his father’s firm. If you are 25 and reading this please know this: you are far from out of it. Find a problem. Go solve it.

every generational founder in history was already doing exceptional work by 16, 19, 22. not thinking about it. doing it. if you're 25 and there's nothing to point to - the odds shift dramatically. not impossible. but the distribution gets thin. - dubugras was running a payments company processing $1.5B at 16. - wang was winning national olympiads and interning at quora before he could drive. - collison invented his own programming language and won ireland's young scientist of the year at 16. - buterin wrote the ethereum whitepaper at 19. bet on the youth!
